I voted for Trump in 2016, but he has to be dumped this November!

I was afraid then Hillary would otherwise grab all our guns but now I know much better. It sounds like Donald Trump may have stimulated the growth of a lot of burger-flipping, mopping, sweeping and coffee-pouring jobs but precious few professional careers, government jobs and skilled-trade...

I KNOW AN OLD HUNTER WHO SWALLOWED A FRY

It's supposed to be a song with the melody of this: I wanted to have an OUTDOOR theme! My lyrics aren't copyrighted so anybody with talent is free to take my lyrics and produce a song recording and/or a cartoon animation of the song content and publish a video on YouTube of it. The American...

I KNOW AN OLD HUNTER WHO SWALLOWED A FRY

I know an old hunter who swallowed a fry. I don't know why he swallowed a fry. I guess he'll die. I know an old hunter who swallowed a bunny. That hopped n kicked n jumped in-his-tummy. He swallowed the bunny to catch the fry. I don't know why he swallowed a fry. I guess he'll die...

What does the newbie to Western deer hunting via horseback need to know?

You can't consume "fake" (virtual) game for nutrition. Anyway, I aim to get some real doe venison before I die of old age, by horse or by ATV. A guided doe-days hunt seems to be my best bet.

What does the newbie to Western deer hunting via horseback need to know?

I got this from the eldest son of an Irish-Catholic SFPD cop. This eldest on was born in 1950 and never hunted a day in his life. He was under the impression that crap-tasting venison comes from crap deer zones. My crap deer came from B-2 in Trinity County. This man was an avid fisherman...

What does the newbie to Western deer hunting via horseback need to know?

In California, the best venison comes from certain zones which are next to impossible to draw tags for.

What does the newbie to Western deer hunting via horseback need to know?

When I was seven, my grandfather got some venison from a hunter buddy at work to share with the family. It was as good to me as any beef. I have tasted both excellent venison and lousy venison as I have tasted both excellent beef and rotten beef.

What does the newbie to Western deer hunting via horseback need to know?

Trade them for a shotgun and a good retriever (one who won't balk at picking up doves or pigeons) and go for doves, ducks and fowl maybe? Hard to screw up the flavor of birds.

What does the newbie to Western deer hunting via horseback need to know?

The yearling buck had acorns in its belly. Legend has it this spoils the meat. It ran off when shot behind the shoulder. Adrenaline. Ruins the flavor. Boy deer are tough. Girl deer are tender I have been told. I will forgo the horses unless the hired guide has them as part of the deal. Several...

What does the newbie to Western deer hunting via horseback need to know?

I'm getting hungry for doe venison if you can believe that. The horrible taste of the yearling buck I bagged back in the 1990's turned me off from deer hunting for many a year but the hankering has slowly crept back into my blood. It's a kick, an infatuation.

What kind of weather, climate and terrain do you favor for hunting and scouting?

My first and only deer was taken by me in a "lush green forest" of Trinity Co., CA in 1996. A few gentle rolling hills in the woods (a private ranch) but no vertical cliffs to climb. No rough brush. No snakes, warm in the afternoon but not burning up in mid-October. Damp in the morning and...

What does the newbie to Western deer hunting via horseback need to know?

No. I'll probably just hire a guide or outfitter to do day hunts only from a stand. No overnight camping in the woods. If I were rich, I would probably invest whatever money is needed to do the horse thing properly. Take horsemanship lessons, own my own ponies and such. I'm no athlete to be...

What does the newbie to Western deer hunting via horseback need to know?

I don't like the idea of camping all alone in the woods and sleeping by myself even with a gun. I want some companion animal with me for comfort. I would prefer to have a large dog or two out there with me for a sense of security. Dogs will bark like crazy if some wild animal comes near. They...

Who here west of the Mississippi River hunts only does for meat?

I prefer to let the deer processor do most of the hard work. It might be hard to find GOOD public deer land in Oklahoma and nearby Texas. I understand rifles can't be used on this land anyway. I can't see a shotgun's being used by me in a deer stand. I'm a much better rifleman than archer...

Who here west of the Mississippi River hunts only does for meat?

Young guy at age 55? Well, arthritis has crept into my middle-age bones and joints. I'm no strong warhorse as I was in the army 100 pounds less and 25 years ago. I can maybe hike within a mile from the truck to a tree stand or a ground blind , over FLAT ground, but probably go much longer on an...

Who here west of the Mississippi River hunts only does for meat?

About 95% of the land in OK and TX is privately-held. I would think most of PA (my grandfather's native state) land is private as well. I am only interested in gun hunts, preferably with CF rifle in traditional calibers. I like .243 Win. That's only permitted on private land, with landowner's...

Memorize where the hole is or set a GPS way point? Oh, Happy New Year!

Who here west of the Mississippi River hunts only does for meat?

Thank you, sir. That's good information to know. That's going to be my game plan in the future when I get back into deer hunting again.

Will many guides/outfitters provide clients "doe-only" hunts upon request?
