    Ferris ISX 2200

I recently purchased a Made in the USA- Ferris Zero Turn mower and couldn’t be happier. I was looking to save my neck from my last zero turn. The suspension on this machine is better then my F-150. I didn’t even know about them until a few months ago. I was looking for something that had a...

Direct seeding acorns and chestnuts into a tree tube.

I remember a discussion about direct seeding acorns and chestnuts and then putting on a tube. I think Letemgrow may have posted some success. I'm really interested in doing that soon. Is as simple as it sounds? Should I bury them a touch or just press them into worked dirt? One nut or two...

    Seed spreader with speed control?

I have a seed spreader that I've had for years with one speed but, I'm looking for something with variable speed. Anyone have one they like that control speed? Id like to be able to just seed my trails and not the brush. I thought about trying to add a speed dial to the one I have know but, I...

The "what the hell have I done?" moment is here.

The logs are out of the woods. The Ash is on a truck to the mill and the Walnut is being scaled as I type this. They have pulled everything out that was a saw log that I agreed to cut. I worked with a NYS Cooperating Forester who I have great confidence in and a logger who has been respectful...

How long can you keep acorns and chestnuts in the fridge?

I have been anticipating a heavy cut of Ash this winter however, it didn't happen because of too many thaws on my wet ground. My next window is summer. I have a bunch of acorns and chestnuts in my fridge that I'd hope to grow this spring but I want to hold off until after the cut. Will they...

Temperature when killing stumps with GLY

I tend to cut trees in the winter. I read on the interweb that GLY is most effective with temps above 53 degrees. Can I still use GLY to treat tree stumps in the winter or is a waste of time if temps are much below 53 (20-40 degrees)? Please share other recipes that will work for me in cold...

    Bad Ash problem.

I have 70 acres in WNY hit hard by the Emrald Ash Borer (EAB). 70 % of my acreage is Ash. I’m cutting this winter, whenever it arrives. I’m doing some clear cuts where I will put in hard-mast, late dropping fruit trees, and small kill plots. Worked with a Consulting Forrster. My current dilemma...

Any creative ways to label our trees?

I have planted over 25 different oaks and chestnuts on my place since 2008, not to mention fruit trees. I have attempted to use a label maker to label the names of my trees without success. An Amish gentlemen I know suggested a piece of siding from a house and a #2 pencil but, I couldn't cut...

    Gear Thread?

I was thinking a gear thread could be helpful. Everything from stands, bows, arrows, tractors, implements, ammo, hunting boots, etc. Hunting is a billion dollar industry (and boy do I help support it) but, not all gear is created equal. I tend to buy gear based on recommendations from others...

Two years ago I purchased tewelve 3 Gal. Dunstans from Chestnut Hill and also started my own Dunstan chestnuts in 18 cell rootmakers. Last summer the 3 Gal transplants did well and I thought I was out of the woods with babying them but, this summer we have been in drought. I noticed...
