    300 Blackout

Well, in the name of science and that we could use more protein to sustain us through the harsh Carolina winters, finally got a chance to test out the Hornady red tips and I have to say, I am rather impressed. My son was behind his lil rig and wouldn't you know, a buck he wanted that we named...

    Sainfoin & small burnett

My family put Sainfoin in a reclaimed orchard up along the 45th in MI, first year came up good and deer were in it every evening, the next season weeds took over the area and wasn't so hot. I am in northern NC and the local ag ext. said sainfoin had no chance of survival here (they don't like...

    .243 Win or 6.5 Creedmoor?

Whichever one has a threaded barrel :-) 90% certain my next barrel for my sons TC will be a Creedmoor, more energy than the .243 is the only reason I am considering it vs the .243 and as you stated recoil is very similar so I figure why not get a little more E.

    300 Blackout

I guess there is only one thing left to do... dust off my blackout and use some red tips! In the name of science of course! haha

    300 Blackout

A little over a week ago had the best blood trail ever from the 300, this week we decided to go on a donation hunt ( a local non profit, shout out to Orange County Ministry) to help those in need in our area. We had an epic start, got into the stand by 3, by 3:15 yearlings were running around...

Notes from a First Timer from this Weekend.....

I went from avid hunter to a guide and pack mule for my young son and daughter and I have learned a thing or two about trying to keep kids comfortable, one of the better projects I have invested into recently was I picked up a 3 person Bone Collector pop up blind last year on clearance for under...

    300 Blackout

Nice rig! How did the SST's do in terms of DRT vs running and if the later was there good blood? Always curious to hear how the other rounds perform.

    All my bucks are MIA

Hey NC, not sure where you are but I am in the OC and since Monday all but one of the 5, 3yo+ bucks we have been watching have gone off the radar, not just for me but same with my buddies, as Turkey Creek mentioned we all speculate they are bedded down. Wait till Mon or Tues when the cold front...

    300 Blackout

The Blacktips performed again last night yielding back to back success. First does was 80 yards, hit edge of shoulder, exited base of the neck, best blood trail have seen yet from a 300, ran about 50 yards, the second stopped at 140 yards looking around to see what happened when a shoulder shot...

    300 Blackout

The Blackout did its job again last night (Youth Hunt). As light was fading this big bodied buck ran everything else off and only had his head and neck exposed, my son kept waiting for that extra step but it wasn't happening, finally my son said he had the crosshair on the middle of the neck, I...

This is why you don't give a guy like me...

I didn't get my hands on Berseem but did get Durana in and it is doing well. It was an awesome spot/plot where we saw deer every time we went out and had good success, can't ask for anything more.

    Improving rifle accuracy

A suppressor can range in weight depending on the model but a good figure is around a pound (16oz). I don't notice the extra weight but I also don't stalk and do not have to walk too far to my stands. If you put on some miles then I can see where the extra weight would be of concern but the...

    300 Blackout

Seabee that is a sweet rig. Put a can on it and recoil will be near non existent plus you won't have to scramble with hearing protection when the opportunity in the field arises (the safety aspect is how I justified it :D). The most recent deer was number 5 for my son with the blackout, 3...

    300 Blackout

It is funny how one begins to doubt certain choices when one spends too much time reading others opinions (general personal statement, not insinuating anything regarding this forum). I pretty much had convinced myself that I was going to upgrade my son to a 7mm-08 or 6.5 creedmoor for next...

    Easton Hunting Arrows

After having a bow failure which resulted in a carbon express arrow literally blow up and shower myself and the shooter next to me with pieces, coupled with a family friend who failed to notice one of this Benjamin arrows (speculate) had a hairline crack which resulted in the arrow splitting...

Question. How long after a deer expires does the venison go bad?

It will be interesting to see others thoughts on this as personally I get nervous if it starts taking much more than 2 hours from shot, to skinned, to deboned and in the fridge when the temps are high but then again I am not much of a risk taker when it comes to these sort of things. A good...

    Youth Hunt

He uses a TC Encore with an adjustable stock and a 300 Blackout barrel. I have a Mac Brothers can on it. Almost zero recoil and I love the fact of not having to mess with trying to get hearing pro on when a deer is coming in.
