    Live from the stand 2021

First sit of the year this afternoon for me. Count stands at 10 does and 1 really nice 2 yr old 8 who was tending to one of the does. The 2 yr old was the nicest buck I’ve had on camera since august so looking forward to what else happens this evening

    Blue hill

I spent my afternoon yesterday hitting th refresh button to catch them when they got put up. Almost missed them but was able to get 14 pear trees. In my mad dash to check out I didnt get the 15 total that I wanted. I also wanted to get some hot the rifle deer pears but I never saw any of them...

    2016 ACCF American Chestnut

Where or how do you get a hold of these trees? I would love to plant some because I am a tree nut but I haven't been able to figure out how

Starting my journey...Locust Hill Farms in the Piedmont of Northern VA

This looks awesome!! I've spent a decent amount of time right in that area so I am really excited to see what comes out of your labor! Talking about managing for wildlife on a cattle operation reminds me of a lecture I listened to from a PHD in Virginia Tech's Extension office. It was all about...

Prunus fruticosa x Prunus cerasus 'Juliet' + "romeo" + "Carmine Jewel"

I'm glad you haven't had trouble with them. I spent an hour this morning killing tent caterpillars that miraculously appears on mine over this week.

    New Food plot feedback

Where are deer bedding in this photo? It looks like a good plan to me except that I have no clue where your scent is going to be blowing hunting. It looks like to me you would just be blowing scent back into the heart of your property with a SSE wind. But that might be a good thing for you, I...

Prunus fruticosa x Prunus cerasus 'Juliet' + "romeo" + "Carmine Jewel"

I have had good luck growing bush cherries as well, but I am in zone 7. I think mine are Nanking. The bushes have grown great for me, they are probably 7 feet tall and 4 foot spread each, planted in a row with 8 foot spacing. But man I hate growing any Prunus. I have to spray for fungus and...

    Honey locusts

Gotcha, I am not sure what the odds are on the seedlings remaining thornless, genetics is not my strong suit. But if I was gonna plant a smallish native tree for wildlife I would just plant persimmon seeds. But if you want some honey locust go for it. They are some cool trees. China gave us...

    Honey locusts

I have no experience with honey locust personally, but I have heard that the seed pods are like candy. But what do you mean by "thorny locust"? because the thorns on a honey locust are just crazy.

Fireblight - worst year ever !

It hit me hard this year too, also in Central VA. Trees that I had never had any trouble with pulled up and replaced this fall. Not sure what the issue was

    Fruit trees

I planted an orchard of 30 apple trees and 3 pears in 2016. If I had it to do over again there wouldn't be any apples at all. And I LOVE to eat apples. Between Japanese beetles and diseases I'd much rather plant pears for wildlife in central Va. My Keiffers and Korean Giant have been spotless so...

    2020 Live from the Stand

First sit of the season for me tonight. It was hot, 97 degrees in the blind. I was surprised though that I saw deer early. Covered up with does from from 2 until past dark. Final count was 7 does a spike and 4 hen turkeys.
