Thanks everyone. I think I can still get my hands on some Antonovka rootstock yet this year. I have plenty of tubes and weed mats already from prior plantings, so it would just be the rootstock cost. I'm going up Turkey hunting this weekend and will map out where I want trees.

Has anyone direct seeded apple seeds in the fall with the intent to build a small orchard for deer? I have a bunch of dolgo crab seeds and this could be a way to get a bunch of free trees. Please let me know your thoughts. Pros: Free Works if you don't care what type of apple the trees...

Wayne, et al., I'd like to fertilize my trees (planted spring 2016, now 4-5 feet tall). They are in tubes with landscape fabric 3 ft in each direction. Do I drop the fertilizer directly into the tube, or spread under the fabric? I've never fertilized trees before...

+1 for the boot blankets. Keep my feet nice and warm at any temperature (and I hunt in WI, which can get cold...). In fact, just ordered a pair to have for my kids as they start hunting. They like to put a hand warmer in the boot blanket, but outside of their boots - says it makes it toastier.

My FIL has a huge swamp white oak in his backyard and it's loaded with acorns. I read online that when the acorns fall, they need to be put into the ground quickly (within 2 weeks) for germination. Anyone with experience on this that can advise? I'd like to plant 50-100 at the Lodge this fall.

We don't have hogs (yet) in Wisconsin. How is the meat from feral hogs? I've heard deferring reports.
