Recommended caliber/rifle for a new hunter

I have shot deer with a 308 and a 270. Both work just fine for killing deer size animals, but the mild recoil of my 25-06 has spoiled me to a point where that is about all I hunt with these days.

VOTE or ADVICE on my box blind windows?

I build mine a little different. I put awnings made from plywood above my windows to block glare. The window is hung on the inside from the top with piano hinge. I make them from plywood. 3'x1'. Any tips for using a Disc

I would say you need some round up to kill all that grass and weeds . A 6.5 foot disc should heavy enough with out the logs. Leveling your disc will help too. If you can kill it , burn it and wait on rain to soften the soil. It will disc up much better. My 38 hp with water in the rear tires...

    Hunting Pine Plantation...Strategy and Pointers?

Some of our best hunting was after our pines were 5th row thinned. Cut some shooting lanes as long as you feel comfortable shooting and hang a stand. If you can put out corn, I would . Use good binoculars and watch the woods. Have a good way in and out , so as to not to spook deer.

    3 Point Spreader?

I just rebuilt my cosmo with a metal cone and stainless slinger. I could have gotten a plastic cone , but stayed with metal. Shipping was high because of the cone came on a pallet. Cost was high, but it looks new and works great.

    First tree stands

My first climber was a Baker with a hand climber. I still have it sitting up a my camp. Those were spooky to climb with. First ladders were 8 feet tall made out of treated pine. I build my ladders 16 feet now and use EMT. We built lock -ons and spiked trees with 8 inch landscaping spikes long...

What type of stand do you use?

I don't hunt out of climbers much anymore. Ladders are so much quieter to get in and out of. Box stands are nice for plots if they are in the right spot. Also nice when it is cold and raining. I hunt from my electric golf cart some, just find a long fire break to watch. I only rifle hunt , so I...
