Plotting in old fescue grass field

Wow some great feedback already. Fire is not an option, landowner won’t allow. I wasn’t sure if mowing was a good or bad thing prior to spraying?

Plotting in old fescue grass field

I’m hoping to add a plot in a field that’s been fescue/grass for decades. It hasn’t been mowed for 2 years, and is currently 12-24” high across the 3 acres. Looking for suggestions on preparing for no-till drill planting of summer blend in early June. Thanks!

    Drought and Survival

I’m surprised that 2 rains didn’t germinate brassicas? I’ve had them pop in 4-5 days when broadcasting just before rain.

What chemicals did u spray with? I have little experience with roller…unsure why you rolled before and after, how far into the seedbed did second rolling place the seed?

    Question for the experts

Crazy thing is that much of what Grant does was learned at forums like this. Nothing wrong with that, I’m benefitting from all the wisdom just like he did. But I’m not taking credit for developing the strategies either....

    What's the point of buckwheat?

I’m a bigger fan of buckwheat than Sturgis. It’s an easy broadcast into cereal and clover plots here in PA when rye browns. I plan to mix in some sorghum/milo with buckwheat this year. I’ve given up tillage and slowly eliminating spraying.
