Best way to handle grafted apple seedlings.

Plant them in their final location this fall after they go dormant is how I do it. Mine stay in rootmaker containers their first spring/summer after grafting to be babied in my yard that first summer. I plant them that first fall after they have survived the grafting process and gone dormant...

Triple C and the better half going vegan tonite

Since I went Primal/Paleo I do almost all of the cooking. started because I was really into finding recipes that were compliant and tasted good and I put a bunch of time into trying different recipes. I found out I really enjoy it and I find it relaxing and very satisfying and have become a...

    Grafting tool

I usually go to Cummins grafting class for something to do in March every year. The last two years there have been guys in the class who have one of these tools. They reported success rates similar to Headdigger and said regular grafting knives and cuts do much better for them as well.

Best Clover Seed Brand for Frost Seeding

Whitetail Institute is good clover but is not a good option for frost seeding. A large portion of the bag is indeed Berseem clover which won't frost seed so you are wasting a lot of money. Medium red clover is what I use a lot for frost seeding and it does well. You can check labels or just buy...

    Northeast Craigslist Finds

If you find one you like don't drag your feet. They don't last, especially this time of year as guys are gearing up for spring. I looked for several years before I finally bought one last year I had to drive 3.5 hours each way for. It was worth it but was farther than I really wanted to go. I...

    Tell me about Elderberry

Elderberry is pretty easy to grow in my experience. The hard part is keeping the deer off them as most here have stated. Give them good cages so they can get above the reach of the deer. The deer will keep the lower parts browsed. The deer obviously like them. ;)

    Forest to Fork Movement.......

Anytime someone is interested in hunting it is an opportunity for our "sport" and it is in no way a bad thing. People hunt for different reasons, filling your freezer is definitely one of them for many and always has been where I am from. Not everyone cares about habitat/herd management or most...

    Bad Ash problem.

This is a question for your forester who walked the property. He should be able to tell you what each option will produce on your property. Cut what you can use with the ash, the rest will not inhibit sunlight getting to the forest floor when it dies. We don't have as high a percentage of ash...

    Screening trees

They work great but it will be 6-10 years before they are big enough to start screening. Plan on caging them until they are bigger as the bucks will rub them once they are about 3-4 foot tall and kill them.

    3 pt sprayer recommendations?

We have a 150 gallon Crop Care that we have had for close to 10 years and we love it. They are not cheap. We do a lot of acres every year between a few properties and it was money well spent for us. I have their ATV sprayer as well and they make quality equipment. I love our sprayers but you...

    Scope choice for groundhogs?

Leupold 4.5-14 with Fine duplex for a nice groundhog scope. I have one on my 20 Vartarg, which is my main woodchuck gun. Just the one I like, I am sure you will get several other good suggestions. I have a Leupold 6-18 with long range duplex that is a nice woodchuck scope if you want even more...

    2019 plots

I realized this was where I was a year or so ago. I still enjoy hunting but I don't have that drive to do whatever it takes to kill a deer. I enjoy my time in the stand but I spend most of it thinking about how I can improve our properties and deer herd.

    Help Creating Bedding Cover

Drop some of those pines in pockets. The downed trees and sunlight getting to those openings will create the cover deer like to bed. I have done this several times and it has always been successful for me.
