In the video, you will see the maps I made of the tracking. The deer was still alive 9 hours later....the dogs jumped it 600 yds from the shot and the handler wasn't sure they could catch it. They did and that's how we recovered her. Good blood at the site of the shot and for 100 yds but...

The crazy thing is that if you saw the entry and exit holes, you would say "great shot". The bullet hit that sweet spot just behind the heart and under the lungs....he's going back to the shoulder shot!

I thought my season was over with my buck that I posted, but I got a call on the MLK holiday that a friend had a deer down and needed some help. By the time I made the one hour drive, he had called a dog team, so we waited. Here is the story in video!:

Friday afternoon hunt. 15 minutes in the stand and at 215 a 4.5 y/o 6pt comes thru. Pass. Feeders go off at 330....NOTHING. Spike comes out after 4 pm and eats all corn. Never saw a doe. Nothing came to 2nd feeder in another plot I can see. Sunset at 505 and right about that time, spike is...

They were mainly deck areas and clear cuts when we established the plots. When they replanted pines, they planted around the areas we had under tillage. If you're working with 100% planted pines in rows, that's going to be challenging to grow plots even with the right soil amendments because...

They are all JUNK considering how much they cost. I was a Bushnell fan year ago, but not sure why, because I probably sent every one I ever owned back for replacement during the warranty period...at which point they would actually ask "was it outside the whole time?" as they tried to weasel...

It was all done with with 39 hp Kubotas, lime, fertilizer and seed...no heavy equipment. You can see still the stumps we plant around after 13 years!

I did one acre and then a big strip on my 20 acre farm that might have at most 10 deer on it and it got tall and bushy....I don't think they knew what it was at first. On my hunting lease, we did a couple of acres and it got wiped out. More deer density and less other browse in the local...

Yes. Grows easy and provides tons of protein if you can get it established. Small plots will get wiped out quickly. If it gets 6' tall and stalky, you cannot brush hog it and disc it on the same day. It needs weeks to break down the hemp (AKA rope) fibers. Ask me how I know!

Here's an update on how the plots look 4 weeks after planting. We had a dry November but they still greened up pretty good. Since this video, I have fertilized and we got some rain, so they look even better. Enjoy.
