    Late summer buckwheat try

I planted about 3/4 acre plot I set aside in between a Soybean / corn / clover I tried to wait and plant it as late as I could and still get hard seed in the fall. Hopefully I got the timing right, I could be a little late if 70-90 days is right for maturity. Planted 7/28 3/4 acre approx...

some venison chops on the menu

traditional venison chops - hand cut. Worth the effort in my opinion. Not always wanting to spend the time on them when we get a deer or two and time to package is limited - but very glad when I do. sometimes Ieave the tallow on sometimes not. I'm good if it cooks away and not into the meat -...

    Venison Chops

I like venison - I eat it quite a bit -but I get bored with it too. So this year I'm trying some new things I've never done before, including Bone in chops, Shank, and a few other specialty cuts. I started with Chops - was a little worried about the venison tallow - but it wasn't an issue at...

    Grass ID?

We have a wild grass on the farm that grows in clumps - like mounds - 1-2 ft tall. The grass is 4-6 ft tall. The area is a bit wet and doesn’t drain well - anyone know what kind of grass maybe? I’ll try to get a closeup when I’m out of the tree - Sent from my iPhone using Deer Hunter Forum

Its been very wet in Central NY - our 10% rain Saturday turned into a misty wet lake effect rain for the 1st 8 hours. In the end we were lucky to get the corn in. With rain in the forecast all week - yesterday and today were our only options for a bit. We broadcast 1000 lbs of 20-10-10...

Antler coloring and repair -1st trys

So this winter I learned how to color antlers that are old or bleached out. I fixed up some old sheds and learned what did and didn't work. I wanted to do this because I wanted to repair some antlers and such. I didn't care if I did perfect - but I knew I'd have to play around before I could...

Post your Favorite food plot pictures from this year!

Some of my buddies pick on me for taking so many food plot pictures!! I justify them rightfully so - by explaining how important it is for me to be able to look at plots from past years -at known dates and periods of growth - to compare and evaluate them for success/failure. But sometimes I...

Building a pallet rack Tower Blind - two types of build.

Occasionally factories will swap out their pallet racking for new ones, for various reasons - not usually because they wear out! Every so often I've been lucky enough to be able to pick up some being scrapped out. There are two ways to go about it - One is to use the steel rack- floor to...

Fall Oat/Clover planting - best timing for you?

Ive had trouble getting rye the last couple years - so I've gone to feed oats to plant with my fall clovers. The oats are like $11 for 100 lbs and I was real happy the way it worked with my fall planted clover last year. The deer really liked it as well. So last year - 2 plots were planted...
