Should I plant winter rye or a brassica mix in my clover this fall?

You could do 100lbs an acre---medium rate. Anywhere from 50-150lbs but it's just how thick do you want it. Winter peas do pretty good also.

    4 STEP MINERAL LICK

I have deer creating a hole right behind my house----they are attracted to water that pumps out of the basket pump in the basement because the water softener drain into the basket and then gets pumped right behind the house. They seem to really like it!

    Winter rye usage

I'm not understanding why clover dries up in the summer heat if the roots can go that deep? I thought that chicory did better in the dry spells because of it's deep roots(always thought chicory went deeper than clover). I'm in minnesota though so i can only imagine what REAL summer heat is...

    Late Fall Dormant Seeding

Seeding now probably won't work nearly as good as fall planting or frost seeding in spring. Plants need to get some roots established before being frozen for several months.

Got my plots in this weekend, now torrential rain!

That sucks but I think I would wait---how far did the seed wash? 3 feet? 300 yards? If there is any slope at all it probably washed most or all away but if it's flat land you might be ok.

    Fall Food Plot-HELP

Looks like you have room for another 3% at a glimpse. Mix doesn't look too bad---I prefer foodplots with as many different things as possible as long as they are compatible. With diversity you usually can have something growing for the deer at all times.

Rye vs oats vs winter wheat

Yeah--don't know why. Same results every time--I'm in central Minnesota. Could be the deer are on the oats, that might be the case.

Rye vs oats vs winter wheat

I must be doing something wrong---oats are always the shortest plants of those three when I grow them. Rye is the tallest when mature.

    Spraying brassica

If they are large enough that they are getting more brittle they will break. If they are still flexible they should be fine. Even if you do break some off it probably won't be a big deal unless you need to drive all over it to spray? What are you driving to spray? Tractor--4 wheeler--bicycle?

    Is this a Complete failure?

If you could enlarge the plot would be best. Then add what you have otherwise you need to plant the things that can take the most grazing. I like clover, chicory, oats and rye.

Starting the lil’ fellar out early...

My oldest was getting pretty good when he was about 5. Then he decided he didn't want to kill any live animals. His choice but it bothers me every year that I go hunting alone thinking about what he's missing. That's on me. I have 3 children and none of them hunt or are into sports but will play...
