2020 sheds

Found a big one today! This is from the biggest buck on the property. He shed 2-3 weeks ago, and I’ve been searching since then. Found it 30-40 yards off a food plot sitting in some pine straw. He shed the left side a few days later, but I think he lost it around his bedding area not a food source.

Here he was in velvet.

Theres your shooter buck, that's one that should be around for next year. Have you named this particular deer yet?

Take a shed with you and throw it around. I find a lot of my sheds while looking for the one I threw. It also slows me down some.

Go on wet and cloudy days. I seem to see them better when it's not bright and sunny. I think shadows throw me off.
I look at antlers all the time in different settings and weather. Teaches your eye to find them. Amazing how many I see before my brain has time to realize what I’m looking at.
That's some good antler finding tips that I need to keep in mind for the next time.

We have been finding some great sheds lately.

This is the 2nd biggest matched set I've ever found. Should be a certified giant next season.

These bases are not quite 8" but this is a toad of an 8pt.

You're really picking me up. What's your method of finding them?

This year has been pretty simple. 90% of the fresh sheds have been in greenfields since there isn't much food around right now. The two biggest sets we have found have been in bedding areas. If you don't have any food this time of year you don't have bucks around to drop their antlers I'm afraid.

And like stated above, don't waste your valuable time shed hunting on sunny days. Wait for cloudy days at a minimum and a misty drizzly day even better. But I cannot stress enough that if you don't have any food around your farm right now you probably aren't going to find many sheds.

Good to see you again, John Paul.

Looks like majority of my bucks shed this past week. Trail cameras show lots of antlers last week and very few this week. There are a couple of stragglers still holding one side, but it’s time to get serious about shed hunting.
