It took the deer on our lease about 2 months to pick it up. We tried cotton seed meal and they didn’t like it at all!! We had to mix it pretty heavy with pellets to get them to eat it all. They really picked up eating pellets once we added the berry scent from the GDN(golden deer nuggets). Going straight pellets and no corn, we have pretty much kicked the coon population to the curb at the troughs. Now the Moultrie feeder on the other hand has been destroyed. Ripped the solar panel off, chewed the battery door up, and pretty much ripped the spinner plate off the motor. Maybe they have to have a challenge to get to the food.....?

I probably asked this question before but don't recall the answer if there was one. Do bear mess with protein pellets assuming you add no corn or flavoring?? I tried protein in a bear proof traditional feeder once, but as most know, it clogged it up and was a mess to clean out. Not sure for me any reachable protein feeder is safe on my place. Coyotes keep the coons and skunks cleaned out so no worry of them for me.

The majority of the bears around here are in eastern Tennessee. There are a some that have migrated towards my lease, but the numbers are small and they are still several miles away and moving slowly.
