LOL. Yea, my experience with a saw really started two years ago when I bought my place, so I'm certainly not a pro either. Prior to that I had only cut down a few small trees or cut up the occasional downed tree. I'm sure this won't be the last time it happens to me, but hopefully it will make me more prepared in the future.
Thanks FL Plotter! The extra bar and chain is a great idea!! I will do that from now on.An idea to recover from a pinched saw is to always have your bar tool and and extra bar and chain with you. Leave the bar in the tree, put on the new bar and chain, and cut your way out of it. Or have 2 saws... or more.
I had to fell a dozen pines bigger than my 18" bar since Hurricane Michael and once I got the backcut deep enough, I drove a wedge into the saw cut and then continued the backcut. Not every tree went the way I wanted it to, but I never pinched the saw.
It's amazing how much you can make a tree fall away from its natural lean by manipulating the thickness of the hinge and the angle of the backcut. Some great videos on YouTube about it. More of an art than I thought and my 16th birthday present was a Stihl chainsaw over 3 decades ago.
Unfortunately it is, but I can't complain for the price. $398 fitted with a Bushnell scope.
That's cheaper than a bargain, that's a steal of a deal. Savage sure knows how to make it tough for the competition to sell rifles. The average hunter spends more than that on a scope alone, sans rifle. And my three Savages, while not quite as favorite as my Sako A7 and my Ruger M77 rifle, are still very accurate rifles.
