I'm guessing you're a ways south of me. I'm sitting on a foot+ of snow and frozen ground. Could you share some pics of your solar and camp setup? I'm also on solar, and curious to see how other guys are using it.

Which state are you located?

We're still a month out here. Deer season ends 2nd Saturday of January but we're pretty much done with hunting on the 1st. Just don't like to start any habitat work until after the season ends. 1st order of biz will be to check trail cams to see what bucks we will have going in to next season.

The biggest thing we will do in 2020 is most likely the final harvest of 65 acres of 30 yr old planted pine. That will drastically change the nature of this section of property as it will go from a mature pine stand to basically a clear-cut. Kinda sad when that time actually comes because a mature pine stand is such an aesthetically pleasing thing to see down here along with great wildlife habitat - turkey, deer and fox squirrels.

110 acres of 20 yr old planted pine will be cruised by our forester to determine if it's time for a 2nd thinning of this stand. If so, that will greatly enhance the daylight to the floor and provide even more browse and bedding. A few oaks will be removed that encroach on the edge of fields to provide more moisture and sunlight to the plots. Always a work in progress.

Couple feet of snow on the ground here..... It will be mid May before I can get equipment in the fields. Which is driving me nuts because I’ve got a tractor to break in. I will frost seed clover in March and I’ve identified a couple dozen trees I’ll cut down in February to provide browse, improve shooting lanes, and good firewood. Other than that, I’m in planning mode for essentially 5 months. Months of feeding the wood stove actually sounds pretty good right now.

KS.
I've been spraying fescue and brome as the weather has been nice. According to the weather app I may have missed my window for what I didn't get to. I don't plant my trees until March-ish, but that's because that's when they get shipped to me.
Ya, I know where you're from, you're not planting anything in January in Kansas. I'm surprised that you have anything green to spray in KS in Dec? I was wondering where buckdeer1 is from, some of these guys talk habitat but don't have their location on their profile. Northern US climate is a lot different than south Florida for instance.

Buckdeer1 is from KS (that's what I meant with my previous post). Our places are not far apart.

Temps have been in the mid 50's a lot. Cool season grasses are doing great, need to make room for bunch-grasses and forbs.

It is never not habitat season in the south. We take a break this time of year, because it is hunting season, but that does not mean there isnt something to be done. Burning, spraying fescue, TSI, tree planting in the winter. Food plot work summer and fall. Duck hole work and planting, bush hogging, trail and road repair in the summer. I never have a day that I can say “I’m done”

Habitat work here this time of year tends to be running a chainsaw or a clearing saw.

I got some post season scouting to do as well....once muzzleloader season closes. I like looking for the rubs, scrapes, beds and the like to try to piece together a plan for next year.

Yep 54 today and 56 tomorrow chance of snow saturday.Wasn't expecting the trees yesterday but they arrived fro Willis. They were asian pears which by the way are great tasting.I have a bunch more ordered but expecting them in march or april.I saw bugs flying around tonight while we were in blind. Will start trapping and calling coons as soon as gun season is over along with duck hunting. My solar system is pretty simple, got it from windy nation on amazon.I have a panel that runs into the controller and inverter to deep cycle battery then I have 4 motion led 4ft shop lights that run off that.I have 2 of them set up on switch so I turn on when I walk in and 2 on motion in far end so they only come on when I walk to that end.The power should last with current setup about 4 hours.I do have the option to get a couple batteries at work that are 120 amp hours each and it may take awhile to charge but could hook up a few and last a week probably. I will take some pics next time

Not quite ready for any habitat work till Jan. I let my Dr practice some with his scalpel carving yesterday so not allowed do anything for 2 days. Our ML season starts next week which I love so be out for that, finish bow season thru end of year, then we have a 3 day primitive weapon season early Jan I'll do with open sight, side hammer ML and the recurve.
Really not planning much on land for the year except to touch up some random clusters, plant few more pears( I'm done with apples), spray and work some fescue to transition into native growth fallow fields. Plots are on their own except will have 2 ton lime spread. Sit back and let them do their stuff. My micromanage days are over.
As a side note, I showed my lady pics of couple really nice tall tined 8s I had passed this year and she said I was crazy. Tried to explain once again that in 1-2 years they could really blow up. Her response was... then why don't you just wait and hunt in 2 years then?? I laughed with no real response to give. Maybe she's right.
