Serious question.....What's your thoughts on the free choice feeder? Do you think it pulls mature deer to your land? Pros or Cons? I'm sure your neighbors have the spin feeders or doing the piles of corn.

I have really worked over our other property with the dozer. Get a lot done in a short time! I was actually going to go to the deer lease and shut stuff down today and get my 4 wheeler but when I saw that light wind for today I had to do the burn!

My thoughts...i am not sure if it pulls them there or if they would just be there anyway. When we bought the place it had 5 big bucks using it already and we killed 3 of them that year without any feeders. Other than that the free choice 4 port feeder does get a lot of use but it is also well down into the timber. If it was in the open I don’t think you would see what mine does. It will also break you if you have a lot of deer using it, I go through 300 lbs every 4 days... yes, the neighbors use spin feeders for sure because I can hear them go off from my stand but I am not sure if they have any other types...

I have been getting photos of this buck the past 3 years. I do not have an exact age on him but he is ancient. I will show you the past 3 years. This year he has really gone downhill on his rack and the other 2 years he wasn’t much either...

I don't live on the land I hunt, so I would only fill it once a week. I was thinking about using one to hold some bucks from the neighbors place or at least keep them close to home per say, as some have itchy trigger fingers. I have no problem putting one in my timber. I truly love hunting over a good acorn crop but we haven't had a good crop in several years now. As I've said before I have killed several mature bucks over plots also but I'm like you as I would rather set over an oak flat with acorns falling.

Had a little fun slapping trees around today...this is the area the new pond is going to be once I get a lot more trees out of there. The tree line is about where the middle of the pond will be. Lots of clay under the topsoil. Should be a good fishing pond.

How big and deep do you project the pond to be? Looks like a nice spot.

The trailer is reasonable enough to buy and the guy is a buddy of a good friend of mine and told us to get it and take it and load the dozer up and see what I think before purchasing. We are going to test the brakes and everything Tuesday or Wednesday and this trailer would be good for close work and getting between our 2 farms. For work over 30 miles I think I am going to have to hire transport...

I am hoping the pond ends up about 10-12 feet deep...we will see because it will be my first. Lol

Be careful with that heavy haul. Yellow machines are big beasts

Yes they are! Transport is the problem to be solved at this point. The bulldozer itself is proving to be flawless...

Sounds like the trailer is a slam dunk opportunity. It will probably pay itself off in a short amount of time. Hiring transport just goes into the bid so no real cost there, unless you loose jobs because of it.

No weather other than cloudy, a bit windy, and cool...actually supposed to be warmer than the 41 we were yesterday. After church I am going to move more trees...

That ancient old buck ended up in the backyard a few days ago...

Lots of daylight activity in this cold...









I set some raccoon traps today because it’s getting ridiculous. Lol

I set 3 dog proofs yesterday evening using mini marshmallows as bait. A raccoon got caught with his hand in the cookie jar...

A few post back I posted how I first had history with him in 2017. I am not sure how old he is but he is getting up there. I originally called him “Bully 6” because he had a 6 point rack in 2017. In 2018 he had a 7 point rack and now he is a 5 point...his rack has noticeably been smaller every year I have seen him. He has been really high on my hit list simply due to his age but by the time he is day walking later in the season I am usually done buck hunting. In 2017 I almost got a shot at him but the doe he was following winded me before he got into my bow shooting lane...

Ya, don't see many trucks pulling that much steel around. I'm sure you have a great brakes between your truck and trailer... how's that truck handle hills? Standard or auto trans? I could see an auto getting hot if you didn't have an extra heavy duty cooler on it.

We have a few farmers in our area that do... the tri-axle trailer is designed for dozers and backhoes to keep the weight off the truck. It’s a fine line on where to put the equipment on the trailer. Too far back and you lift the truck and lose traction. Too far forward and you load the truck down too much beyond the advertised axle weight.

And that’s not even my truck...it’s a friend of mines. He let me borrow it to get the trailer home because I don’t have a gooseneck ball installed yet in mine. I have the same power train and trans and mine has the extra heavy duty trans cooling package but my truck is a 3/4 ton and yes it has great brakes, a Jake brake, and a tow/haul option on the trans that gears down automatically plus the trailer has good brakes that will actually stop the truck itself. I pulled several hills and the only ones I had issues with were gravel hills because the truck wanted to spin climbing the hill due to dozer being back too far about 2 foot...my dozer guy pulled his with a 3/4 ton Ford for years...it’s the exact same dozer. If I have issues with it I will trade my truck for a Dually but it’s gonna have to be a good one because my truck is a cream puff and is a 2009 with only 100k miles...

Interesting story told to me by a friend of mine yesterday. He helped a local rancher haul 54 head of cattle to sale in OKC. They put 27 each in 2 trailers. His trailer the cattle averaged 770 lbs apiece and the trailer he was pulling weighed 8 thousand pounds and was a tri-axle. He was using a 2013 Chevrolet 3/4 ton Duramax single wheel and they had to go through Tulsa on the way to OKC which is a 4 hour drive from here. He said those cows would move back and forth and he spent the entire time correcting for their movement and he said since he was driving a farm truck the DOT never even looked at them even though he said he was way past overloaded and actual 26k weight but said had he been pulling a chained down stationary piece of yellow equipment that weighed 6k less they would have been all over him.

Lol, cattle will push a truck and trailer all over the place. They shift or move and the truck lurches forward or backwards. The first time I hauled cattle was kind of a weird experience.
