Trapping at river bend

Well I have a problem with hogs. I have a single pig trap I have had set for while. The trigger never would go off when the pigs went in so I decided to build one. I had a shipping crate that my sawmill came in, I built the door from it. I got the panels for free just had to cut the trees out of them and pull them out. The posts came from an old fence. I have $35.00 in the whole setup.

I have a trap similar to yours, it’s not set right now, but will be as soon as we’re through deer hunting. Mine is pretty simple, a small car tire with a cable attached leading to a pin under the door. When the pigs root the tire to get at the corn underneath it, they also pull the pin from under the door. I drive a piece of sucker rod inside the tire so it will only move forward. Good luck !

It’s is kinda hard to explain. I didn’t get to work on it this weekend but I plan on getting it built tomorrow.

So here is the trigger finished. I probably won’t have any hogs to show for awhile, they haven’t been back on camera since we started building the trap. I leave for work offshore Thursday and I work 21 days gone and 21 days home. I’m gonna leave it set until I leave and hope I get lucky if not I will leave the door pinned open until I get back home. That’s a neat trigger ! When I first started watching the vid and the camera panned around that plot, it was deja vu for me. I had a setup that was nearly identical to that, even to the size of the opening and where the pig trail came up out of the bottom. Even the vegetation and the soil looked the same. I had to take a quick look to confirm where you are !:)

I think that trigger will work ! I like it so much I might steal it when I move my trap next......

Thanks, I found that setup on youtube and hope it works. with us going in and out everyday and all the white oaks dropping the hogs had moved out. I left the gate pinned open while im offshore so hopefully with 3 weeks of no one coming in they will get use to going in it and I can set it when I get back home. I put a camera on the pen so I can see what comes in and how long they stay. As for the plot it is my hunting lease. the sand there is really sandy due to the creek and the river. if you get a chance check out my land tour thread " River Bend " it will show some Arial views to give you an idea.
