2019 Live from the Stand

Had a young 6 pt come in about 5:30 and then another 4 point a few minutes later and then a doe came through...the bucks stayed around me till dark. Nothing else spotted this evening...

Congrats. We finally got some nice temps to hunt this weekend but not sure if I'll take the Xbow out or not.
Well I can say that I saw deer every day that I hunted, so they were up and moving. Although I sat at different stands on our place, the one nearest the Oaks was where I saw all the deer. Funny how the one night they cam from across the road where it is almost all Oaks over onto our place.

It's surprisingly slow this morning. Conditions are perfect for sitting down on the river....having just had a front come through last night, 20° drop for daytime high, clear, and wind out of NW. This is my first ever sit down on this corner of the property and I had high expectations ( maybe too high), but the leaves are changing and it's a nice day in the woods!

Supposedly a straight south wind here per the forecast has a lot of east and north in it as wello_O

I am sitting in one of my northernmost stands after hiking all the way back along our east fence with the wind at my back and side. There are very few white oaks back here and is mainly a hickory/post oak forest with a white and/or red oak every little bit. My clover plot I decided to let go fallow 3 years ago still has a lot of clover and I have a water hole over in the weeds. I rarely come back here so just maybe a mature buck will follow a doe into this small open area.

I year ago today I killed my biggest heaviest 8 point ever but I was hunting my favorite stand in the white oaks with a favorable NE wind.

Tomorrow will be NW wind so I will be over that direction in the morning...

Nice evening...sunny, breezy, 56 degrees

Note to self...don’t sit this stand in evening on sunny days!

Not sure how this is gonna effect me but a big snag just fell about 50 yards away and it sounded like a building falling!

Fill time by posting deer poached in Oklahoma already this fall...

Looks like that first a hole gave a pretty good contribution to the game warden. It wasn’t enough, but hopefully he’ll be rewarded with a hefty fine.

That was surely a nice eight you got last year Okie.

Couldn't really live post much today as the service was bad. My buddy shot a doe around mid day but it turned out to be in the guts so we gave her a couple hours before we went back in to look. Other than the initial shot location we found no sign of a hit. No blood anywhere and we grid searched the whole area with no luck.

On a more positive note, I'm looking forward to our muzzleloader opener tomorrow.

Went to the farm yesterday to assess any wind damage from thurs storm. It had blown section of barn door off so will go back to repair tomorrow. With cold north wind and a skiff of snow I hunted an oak flat. Oddly quiet of deer but I didn’t hunt long.
My resident mouse control was safe in barn and one he missed took ride on the tractor.

Slow morning so far...white oaks have pretty much stopped dropping on our place over the past couple days. Post oaks starting to drop but those are absolutely everywhere so the food pattern is changing. Plots may be a bigger draw for does soon and may attract bucks. I will do a card pull on way out to see if I can confirm that...

General opener here in East Texas. I think the quietest one I’ve seen in years. Very few shots I’ve heard. Sitting on this wheat with a feeder at the end. Don’t expect much from the corn but ours are the only plots in the area. Probably eating acorns in what few oaks we have in the creek bottom.
Wow, didn’t mean to post so many pics. I guess I’m overjoyed at having a plot
