Drop times and ripening can vary based on location, but most named varieties of persimmons can be divided into the categories of Late Dropping and Early Dropping.
Some Late Dropping Varieties are:
Deer Magnet (mostly November in KY into December)
Wonderful (October - November in KY)
Deer Candy (into November in KY)
Miller (late October into November in KY)
Nikita's Gift (October)
The one that Wildlife Group sells is advertised as very late
Early Dropping Varieties:
Prok (Late August into September in KY)
Yates (a little later than Prok)
Osage (September)
Morris Burton
Your location is going to be a little earlier than my location, because you green up quicker in the springtime.
Another option would be for your neighbor to plant seedlings and then topwork them later to the varieties he likes. If he had a wild local tree that he liked he could even get scion wood off of it rather than go with a known variety.

I purchased several Deer Magnet persimmons from Nolin River Nut Tree farm several years ago. John Brittain is the owner and he is great to deal with. The trees are excellent and have been producing for me now for a couple of years. My Deer Magnet persimmons, however, are not late dropping - not in North MS. I have several native persimmons that drop later than Deer Magnet.

Do you know roughly when the Deer Magnet Persimmons do drop for you at your location?
This is interesting to me, because the new nursery in PA (Blue Hills) shows them dropping the first two weeks in December on their drop chart. The Nolin River site advertises them on their web site as holding fruit into November.
I think this illustrates what I was getting at in my first post about location having an effect on drop time. I think most things would drop earlier in the south, because they come out of dormancy earlier in the spring. This is something I have recently been trying to get a better handle on.

I was at Therapy Acres yesterday and looked at my Deer Magnet persimmons. I’ve got 9 trees. They’re all about 8-10 ft tall and I’d say they have about 1/3 of their persimmons left to drop. 2/3 have hit the ground and the deer have enjoyed them.

I got mine from the same source as you. Mine have been slow growing, because I chose a poor place to plant them. I think they will be okay eventually (except for the one I run over with my truck

Like you I’m wondering how much being farther south really impacts persimmon drop times. Might actually impact persimmons more than other fruits. Drop times on my pears and crabapples seem to be more in line with what others report.

Here in SW Indiana we had a bumper crop of native persimmons this year. We haven’t even had a frost yet and the ones that have hit the ground taste great. I’d say 30% have dropped so far. Definitely medium to smaller in size.
We have little seedlings everywhere that I might transplant when they go dormant.
I’m going to take Native’s advice and research how to graft some of them with a different variety.

I see you are from north MS, I live in south MS. I don't see a lot of southern folks on these sites so its nice to see a native lol. Im focusing on grafting persimmons this spring and would love to talk to you about the one you have.Check this one out...a tree I grafted several years ago. Still green on Oct 12 and the fruit size is impressive. It’s a Rossyenka, hybrid American/Asian.

You really should try again. Persimmons are the easiest fruit tree to graft from my experience.

I've ordered trees from The Wildlife Group, Englands, and Turkey Creek. If all possible I would recommend Turkey. His trees are great and much better out of the box than the other nurseries I've used. Wildlife group had good trees but 5yrs later I'm realizing they weren't what I ordered, and England's was a very bad experience in several ways.

Every tree that I bought from Wildlife group was a good tree and have done well, but now that they are fruiting it's obvious that they weren't all what I ordered and were miss-labeled. I have "Callaway" crab who's apple are huge (two fists big) and Dolgo that hold until they rot on the tree. The trees have done well enough that I could see me ordering from them again, but only in a situation where I didn't really care if they shipped me something other than what I ordered. The biggest concern I have with getting the wrong trees is disease resistance. Anything that fruits is good, but I don't want to deal with something that is constantly sick or has to get cut out eventually.
