You ever just take an unplanned day off habitat work?

Big plans for today that included a chainsaw and about 1/4 mile of trail edge to screen didn’t happen. I have been looking at the weather all week and it looks like today was going to be the coolest day of the week with chances of rain and it appeared it would be cloudy all day. I got everything ready with plans to be hinge cutting that trail edge so I can get past my plot undetected starting about 8:00 AM...the problem is I got a Roku a few days ago and cancelled our DirecTV and I haven’t had much time to mess with it due to travel so I was surfing it last night...until 4:00 AM! I kept thinking to myself “well, it may be raining anyway”...negative on that...I awoke around 10:00 and was still tired. The sun was starting to break through the clouds and there wasn’t a hint of a breeze and not 1 drop of rain had fallen. I kept thinking I would get started anytime but it just didn’t happen...ended up taking another 4 hour nap and then changed back to the Brushhog on my tractor because I have brushhogging jobs scheduled all week starting tomorrow...maybe next weekend...

If you have problems with ROKU get a firestick
Oh I don’t have any problems at all with it...lol. I am a horror film buff and this thing has more apps for that than I could have ever imagined o_O

My TV went from $149 a month to $0 with just a $69 1 time purchase :)

You used that bad W word in the title... Making and planting habitat is a fun part of my hunting hobby and as soon as it starts feeling like work I stop immediately and sit in a corner until the feeling passes. Actually, that's what I'm thinking I'll do if this strange phenomenon ever happens to me.
My problem isn't getting started, it's getting stopped.

I always feel guilty when I bail on a work day, but some days it feels so good to do nothing.

Weather permitting, my version of bailing is taking half the day off to do something with the wife.... She’s convinced my habitat obsession is something I can’t control....:). I do find myself frustrated/grateful when rains prevent outdoor chores and I’m resigned t sit on the front porch and chill:)

I use the term “work” at the farm as a term of endearment, it’s stuff that I normally enjoy doing or at least enjoy the effect of the work.

I call jobs around the house “chores” because that’s bs that I know needs to be done but I don’t enjoy doing.

Work at the farm, for the most part, isn’t unenjoyable. If it’s going to be miserable for whatever reason, I will change it up or find an alternative.

I actually asked my cousin for help this year on a job that would have otherwise been deplorable . It was a great decision, got a lot done with his equipment and two people working. And it was nice to shoot the $h*t after it was done.

Okie, I feel your pain!:) At 72 years, it seems like I can procrastinate much better than I used to. When it’s 95* and the humidity matches the temp, I’m gonna be in the house or on my tractor. I might take Sarge for a buggy ride early in the morning so he can get out of the house, since his eye troubles he’s supposed to stay calm and quiet,(Jack Russell calm and quiet ?:D) It won’t be too many more days though until I can catch up on some stuff. Right now I have two trees delimbed and waiting on me to work them up into firewood, and several food plots to plant. Waiting on some cool fronts that promise rain......

Well, I guess I may make up for some of it today...we just got a really good rain which is great for my newly planted plot but it is too wet to Brushhog the place I was going to start today so I am taking my saw to the woods...Brushhog tomorrow...

Good for you Okie. You deserved a day off.......But "horror" films at 4am.....hmmmmmmm
I am also a huge fan of spaghetti westerns and classic westerns and it seems they are all on the same channels with my old horror movies. Especially like the old Terrance Hill stuff:D

Your worried about one day? hahahaha....I had my tractor stuck in a small creek for roughly a week! Talk about an "unexpected habitat day off"! It happens...big deal. It's one thing if you have to "commute" to your property, but one of the best things about living on the place is that I can get to it later...sometimes much later. I often times do the little things after work just to free up time to screw off on the weekend. If your semi-retired you should have all sorts of time. Sure maybe the weather would have been cooler, but you do have to pay some sort of a price. Only time I worry about timing down tot he day is when I am planting and trying to beat the rain. Often times my plans are ....."I don't know, probably do something with the tractor or cut something up with a chainsaw or spray something, in any case I will be here....just not at home".

I remember a good friend of mine who retired at 56 many years ago telling me he didn’t know how he had time to work...I now know exactly what he mean’t. I have been doing all the things that I never had time to do like watching the grandkids, traveling, taking care of paperwork I have been needing to take care of, mowing 2 properties every week, working on a rent house we have,...and...brushhogging. Just got off the tractor a little bit ago. Rain tonight and tomorrow, back on the tractor and another property on Wednesday. Hoping to get some more screening done tomorrow with the rain...

My father just retired a few months ago. He was worried about being "bored". I asked him how "being bored" was going. He tells me he is busier now than when he was working. I figure my mother will retire here in a year or so and then all bets are off. He has 20 acres to "play" with and does, as well as some family in the area that he now engages with more also, and they always seem to be planning a vacation or some project. They also try to make the games of the grandkids and the like as well. I'm just glad to see him...them ...able to enjoy the things they worked so hard for. As long as they don't leave me their bills I hope they blow it all and have a blast in the process!

Don't work too hard Okie....just do what makes you happy!
