Possibly an apple?

saw this small tree on the property, is it maybe some kind of apple or crab apple? First pic is trunk, ignore leaves in that photo.

bark reminds me of a black cherry.....because I don't know what a "Prunus" is :D!!!!
 
bark looked black cherry to me as well, but the leaves doesn't look right for black cherry,
 
Order some scion this winter and use it as rootstock. Better and cheaper than starting from scratch. If the graft doesn’t take, oh well, you can always kill the tree.

I've done that with lots of luck. I've grafted Kieffer and two types of old timey pears with great luck. Make good rootstock.
