Im setting here at my desk today with my blood pressure boiling. Got notification yesterday for a scheduled power outage next week from 8:30 to 2:30 on tuesday. Called power company to see if they could atleast move back outage till noon. they said no. Appearrantly Penn DOT needs poles moved. This is the third power outages the power company has done this year so far. It cost me $6000 an hour when they do this. I just emailed my state senator but Im sure that will go no where. Im one of the larger employers in the area but that doesnt carry any merritt. Im only 6 miles from Maryland and I would move to there but I think they are worse than Pa when it comes to being bussiness friendly. Retirement can not come soon enough..

That sux. At least here they do most that work at night and give at least month notice. Now the water co. is a diff animal. They just drop backhoe and you find out when water turns to milk of none at all. Frustrating I know. They forget our tax dollars is what keeps things moving. Don't get me started on how this country strives to have no one working and on their nipple for control. Good luck buddy.

Ahhhhh...gee, you should try farming! Excuse me if I don't feel sorry you can't control every aspect of every minute of everyday. The world should stop because a minor and temporary action causes you some inconvenience? Adapt! You were notified yesterday for something that's going to happen on Tuesday? Please. You should try farming....

You did give me a reality check in realizing there is all ways some one who is much off worse than yourself. I’ve been blessed with many things and should never complain. BUT when people don’t think with with common sense it just chaps my rear end. When I asked why they couldn’t atleast start till noon it made my blood pressure rise. I’m lucky to do my little farming with money instead of for money. My family farm is probably largest dairy farm in the county and they struggle every day. Any business “contracting, farming , retail or manufacturing” has its challenges. Try manufacturing and dealing with NAFTA, epa, dep, osha. Just like when Ian talking to farmers and they say how cheap corn is yet they just planted a few hundred acres. We all have our struggles. I guess my bum gets sore from all the people living off of the government tity and the wastefull spending. My 100k lose is minimal to me if I say it fast. So thanks farmerdan for the little reality check. I did have to laugh at my self this morning when my watch told my my hart rate was abnormally high with out any physical activity and I need to take a deep breath. Guess I did just need to vent. This Thursday is my Friday since I’m taking off tomorrow to to do some farming. Hope you all have a good rest of the day.

If your business looses $6K and hour being down.....what would the payback be for a genset?

I used to work for a company where electrical service was 100% critical to them. They had their own generators to be able to at least run in a limited capacity should the need arise. They melted iron with electricity (made cast iron automotive parts - tier 1 - so interruption to delivery carried a sever $$$ penalty).....having a power outage and having 250 molten ton solidify on you was NOT an option. It got so bad that we used so much power that the local power company would call us and ask us to "turn it down a notch" because our demand would cause brown-outs in town!

$6,000 an hour sounds like small change to me.

But if it's bothering you - Cheer up and buy a backup generator like everyone else does who has critical electrical infrastructure requirements. Best wishes.

Comcast went down for us today at work and I was ready to shoot someone. That’s all I got.

Just take it out of the company picnic funds. Sorry. Seriously put in some backup if it’s troublesome. I used to work for a utility. One of the biggest fallacies out there is that electricity will always be there when you need it.

I'd get your insurance man on the phone. There is coverage for stuff like that. I think it's called "first-day" coverage or something like that in the case of an interruption of your ability to work.

What do you do when Mother Nature unexpectedly turns your power off?
Best thing we ever bought was a stand-by generator powered by natural gas.
