2019 Eagle Beans

Holy cow Cutman! That is one fine field of beans. We haven't planted summer plots in years but looking at your beans sure does make it tempting.

Cutman, that's a nice stand of beans. Your deer are gonna appreciate that ! We got a good rain here today too, I needed it on my IC peas and we usually don't get much after May.

Depends on your purpose, but if it's forage, I'd say anytime now. You know they are licking their collective lips !:D

Seems you are better off with them eating it now for antler growth and fawn health than just looking at it across a fence. Its essentially July, so what if they eat it up over the next month?

Great looking crop!

I don’t think it will help antlers much at this point, but I agree about it helping the fawns. Deer season starts August 15 here - I would like to be able to hunt over these beans if possible.

When do your deer shed velvet? For us here in La. that starts about the first of Sept. I consider June-August critical months for many things including antler growth

Some will shed by August 15 but others will still be in velvet into September. I’m going to pull the fence next time at the farm - in addition to helping antlers and fawns, I replanted 12 acres of plots over the last couple of weeks and I’m hoping these beans will take the pressure off those plots.

Is your fence a single strand of electric tape ? Seems to do the trick.

I was going to install a double layer system. If a single does the trick, then that would be a big time saver.

I used the Plotsaver system with components bought on Amazon.

https://www.plotsaver.com/

It works on this property because there is lots of other food available. It doesn’t work very well on another property where the deer are hungry.

Those look great.I am behind the curve this year.I got 6 AC of Eagles/corn and 2 AC of a five way summer mix in the ground about 3 weeks ago.

Amazing what a difference 4 days and a good rain make. They got sprayed with Gly last week-end, got 1.5 inches of rain Saturday nite and will get fertilized this week-end, so they ought to pop here soon.Top pic was first planted obviously. Hoping in a few weeks it will look like it did last year

The view from my deer stand. Beans are getting taller and taller. I’m not sure the deer really understand what they are yet...

Man! Yalls plots look good! Mine are pretty much ate down. Cant seem to get them over a foot and a half in height.

Gotta plant more ! And then MORE ! My IC peas are about gone too, because I planted two plots to buckwheat in search of soil improvement, but I’ll have triple the acreage next year.......if I live that long ! ;)
