"Whitetail Hollow" - 90 Acres NE Oklahoma.

Our weather is almost exactly as yours. At least the oak trees are not trying to pollinate yet I done my taxes a few weeks ago and got about half of what I normally got back. Still not happy about that one.
I would love to just break even once...I have never gotten any back...

Did you know you can just indicate a specific dollar amount to go toward taxes from each paycheck and that way you don't owe so much all at once when tax season rolls around?

I am sure I can...I always assume claiming single and no dependents through the year and then filing as married would take care of it but not even close.

That's exactly what I do too and I always get money back. Maybe you need more write offs or a better tax person.

We learned that years ago when my daughter went from daycare to elementary school. We changed everything assuming that the government would take out the appropriate amount but we still ended up owing a bunch, so I made slight adjustments to our "additional" pay each year after that until we were close to breaking even.

Surprised to hear this. My wife and I have both always (26 yrs) claimed single and none then file jointly as a married couple. We have no kids and no deductions (debt free) other than the standard deduction and we always get $2k -$3k back. To be clear, we pay a TON in taxes throughout the year so it’s not like I’m getting some kind of great deal but claiming the way we do throughout the year always results in a little coming back our way. We have occasionally got hit with AMT and that reduced our rebate some but we’ve never had to pay.

Man Okie, when you splurge on a diet, you don't mess around. You are going need a bigger boat/plate. You are looking skinny tho, congrats. Burns looked good, I don't burn but usually spread oats to attract turkey which scratch the ground for me. Didn't have to this year as turkeys are beyond comprehension in numbers and with heavy acorn crop, they have scratched all my leaves away thru the winter to bare ground.
As for taxes, was surprised your read as I had major income jump due to helping cover work for a friend thru his cancer treatments and was expecting bad things. Instead I got a great chunk back and said I was kissing Trump on the lips to thank him. Maybe I should kiss my accountant instead. Of course anyone who is self employed know they never truly enjoy a refund as it is just applied to credit their quarterly pmt. But I won't lie, no first qtr pmt is sweet. Maybe new toy for the farm.

Do you have dependents? We do not...

Yes...Two but one I only get the lowest dependent amount because she is in college. I do have a cattle farm too so that helps but I showed a profitt on that one. This year they did change some tax regs as you can't write off personal property taxes, college books and a few other things which caused me to not get as much back.

Beautiful sunrise from the turkey blind...

Watched the same sunrise... but from sitting behind a computer. I would trade places with you in a heartbeat (slightly jealous). Good luck Okie, hope you see some action this morning!

No birds that day...never even heard one but 10 minutes after I left to go to a soccer game they were in that plot on trail cam. Haven’t been able to go since then...

Here is a sunset photo I took on Sunday...

Took today off to try to get a couple things done and have 1 actual good turkey hunt for our month long season that ends in 3 days. I should have taken a shotgun but I decided to hunt with my crossbow instead since my shoulder is still jacked. I haven’t been to the plot in more than a week and we have had some bad storms this past week. First thing I noticed was the rye grain was really getting tall in front of my blind. The next thing was that my blind was in bad shape from the wind so I walked deeper into the property and got into one of my ladder stands. I called a few times and heard a gobble a ways off coming from our newest 10 acre portion. A bit later I heard it a little closer...after a few minutes I had 4 hens come with a jake following and a longbeard strutting behind. They stayed out a ways and finally I had an opportunity at 40 yards. He was in full strut and facing straight away so I tried for the Texas heart shot. I hit him but he ran away toward our deepest hollow while the rest flew so I knew he was hurt. I got down and found my arrow and it was obvious it passed through so I headed the way he went and right at the edge of the hollow he got up out of some blueberry bushes and ran really fast down into the hollow. I followed but never saw him again but did find my 12th shed of the year off our 90. I hate losing any wounded animal but turkeys are some of the toughest tracking ever since they don’t bleed and if the did the feathers soak it up...

Also found this honeysuckle looking plant at the bottom of the hollow...

I went to my old north Plot I have not touched in 2 years hoping it would go fallow and it still looks like this...

I headed back toward home and took some photos of our south plot from a ladder stand.

Those plots look amazing... have you tested the soil? And do you have a nice layer of OM burying the rocks yet?
Your fallow plot looks about as good as you could hope for with a clover plot

The soil has never been tested. It was dozed out of the woods and I lime it every year with as much pellet lime as I can get. Probably 3 tons acre so far. OM has increased from all the rye grain. Rocks still there and will have more in the fall because I am going to turn dirt in August on most of the plot...

My fallow plot had only about 600 lbs lime spread once. Threw seed down behind dozer and then that first fall turned the dirt and planted clover, rye grain, radishes. Haven’t done a thing since...

That white clover looks great. I bet the deer are wearing that out right now.
I would like to say they are but it would be a fib. Once the native plants start growing my plots are typically always abandoned till later in the year. A few deer come from time to time but not that many. The fall is when they really shine. Thanks!
