April update.

Moonglow grafts doing pretty good. Make sure to take off grafting tape first summer. I had some rot on those I left on.

Planted a few loblolly pines and my sandbox chestnuts. I also had some potted Concordia oaks and fruit trees that needed to go in.

Loaded the sandbox up with more chestnut and some dwarf chinks I have grown. I put netting on top to keep squirrels and munks out.

It’s bee time. Queen/swarm cells are being made and I have 9 swarm traps out. Stay tuned!

Thanks Bill,
I baited mine with 2 old frames of comb, some propalis spread on the inner walls and 2 squirts of swarm commander. Smells just like pledge!

I caught three swarms last weekend, but I had to chase them down. I had made splits two weeks ago but they still swarmed.

I’ve been cutting swarm cells out for 4 weeks. I try to get in my hives during this time every 10 days. Good luck with your bees.

I’ve caught 3 swarms so far. This is better than showing up with a coyote bouncing in a Duke.

Also, got some new openers put on for my tye. It want be long and beans and corn will be going in. I’ve already planted 2 acres of corn.

Forgot that I had sprayed this area last fall with gly and oust for a tree screen. Had to run to Lowe’s and get some Leyland Cypress. I would prefer green giants but deer rub the heck out of them and they tend to leave the alone. I have a field on the backside of this that needs to be screened from the road as I slip n.

My oldest got another bird and it was a double beard. Heck, I’ve only shot one of those. He’s pretty lucky.

December 27 update.

Found some sugar on the train tracks. Tried using for bees but they don’t seam to like it much and it has gotten rock solid in 2 garbage cans.

Started growing hemp. These are feminised and non feminised seed.

I also bought some clones. I wanted to just test out growing these and learn more about the big fuss. Growing trees in the past helped!

I tried 3 different strips. One was planted in lumite, the other house wrap, and the 3rd a companion planting drilled with a diverse cover crop and hay.

I have a ton of pics and a lot to catch up on. I will post more soon.

Bee season was a good one also. Ended up catching around 10 swarms and doubled my hive numbers. We harvested about 300 pints of honey and sold all of it at $10-12 a jar.

I had a great blueberry season also. I’ve had them for about 10 years and they have been a huge pain in the ass. I’ve wrestled weeds, pruned, sprayed, fertilizer and would be embarrassed to mention how much time I’ve used on them. Each spring birds, turkeys and deer would eat all of them and I would only get a handful for myself. This past year I turned my back on them and it was either the bees or the good spring rains but they were LOADED!

I’m almost positive it is like that everywhere. Our company owner grows it at his farm during the spring and summer and we also have a hydroponic grow operation in one of the spare bays/rooms at work. There is also a person at a small farm just across the way from us. If it tests over a certain amount of thc, the whole crop is destroyed. The problem that has been reported on the news here is, not enough processors for the huge influx of new growers. Our owner’s hemp employees have started processing it themselves.

Doc is correct. If your delta 9 THC is over 3% you have a hot crop. You have to test it before harvest to make sure it doesn’t go over and also make sure your CBD numbers are high. Higher the CBD the better.

Not many processors available do to expense to set up and also prices have dropped significantly since October.

Great thread, it is most helpful and inspiring. Am interested in how you made out with your narrow fencing experiment on the apple tree pictured on your very first post on this thread. Wondering did you continue to prune all branches below the fence top and how did the tree turnout?
