Quapaw Meadows (My 160 Acres)...

Very nice looking buck! Girls look great and happy. Prolly have to fence the beans until established from now on. Is that a hog trap ion one pic? June was a dry month as well here, but soils held water very well and things kept growing. After today and last few days, we will be looking at a flood probably!

yep, that's a hog trap. Put it up last year when I was getting some pics of a small group but they only hung around for a week or so then left. Once I set the trap I never saw them again.
My clover/chicory plot still looks great in spite of the dry June. This is it's second year so it has completely canopied the soil so of course it holds water much better than the tilled soil the beans were planted in. The fencing will probably have to happen for me to continue with beans since my deer population has increased.

Don't let that beaver get your worm.:) Seriously, article in paper here this week about otter attacking 2 kayakers on the river. Evidently they were near a nest. One dude got bit.

Glad you're finally getting some rain. We've been blessed this year with ample rain. Well above average. Hate to see the loss of that patriarch pecan tree. Really strange how disheartening it is to lose a tree like that. I've got a few on our place that are just magnificent. 2 years ago I lost one of our old growth oaks that was just massive. Had 2 of them that anchored either side of a hardwood draw and admired them every time I drove by them. Still have the remnants of the blow down on the ground with all manner of growth that has shot up to take it's place but I swear, I always feel a bit of sadness when I ride by where it once stood.

Hope that stud of a buck comes by your this fall. And one day...I'll have me a pond to do some fishing.

Hey everyone. Missed hanging around and need to get my habitat thread back going. Sorry for the absence but I have had a lot of stuff going on in my life. Life is finally getting back on track. I wasn’t able to deer hunt this year except taking out my daughter a few times. This was the year of the small bucks. Lots of deer seen on the few days we hunted but no shooters. I still found time to get food plots planted and even built a new tower stand. The previous one was 4x4 and just too crowded for the blonde hunter and myself.

You guys remember my fescue field that I sprayed 3 or 4 years ago. I sprayed late winter when the fescue was just beginning to grow with glyphosate. Wow-what a different field this looks like. Lots of warm season grasses. Another later winter spraying would be beneficial but the deer love bedding in this field now.

I converted my small boggy bottom Jr plot into a perennial plot. Planted this fall with wheat, oats, red clover, and ladino.

This winter I have been working clearing out a future bow stand for next year. Getting to do a lot of chainsaw work. This stand will be surrounded by Post Oaks and connects with an old road that use to run through my property.

This is the tree where the stand will be placed.

This is the view from the tree stand. Almost looking directly east. You can see the old road. I cleared all the small trees from the road.

View to the South where a major trail intersects and a major doe bedding area about 100 yards away. Lots of rubs and scrapes at this intersection.

Turkey season starts in a few weeks. Ran into this nice group of boys last weekend.

I had some left over Wood and some old fence panels so I quickly made a little ground blind to hunt out of this turkey season. We have a hard time sitting still so this will give us a little more protection.

We have had some nice rain this winter. Ponds are almost full going into spring. I duck hunted my big pond only twice this year and only killed 2 ducks. But what a kill it was. My very first ever Canvasback! The one on the left is going on the wall.

Water is murky from all the run off rain and high winds. Warm weather though has the bass moving into the shallows.
