At farm today and found these 2 chemical barrels parked against my barn. Plus obvious duelly has circled thru my field around to back of barn to drop these.
I have a small line ROW that crosses front of property but not where this happened. Plus I have a no spray contract w AEP of that ROW.
Have already fired out a nasty email to their corporate but it’s Sat. Probably good thing so by Monday I’ll cool off when I make my phone call. Never a problem w locals but. AEP and their subs think they own the whole place. Fenced gated and posted. WTF

I have had the same issue with Westar electric,I have a no mow-no spray agreement with them for a R/W and they are supposed to keep signs in place.Last rifle season guess who shows up with big brush mowers.Well neighbors that also have part of R/W got them stopped.I went and had signs made and hung on fence.Funny thing is it's in their contract that they have to maintain signage and I am to notify them if they need replaced so I notified and documented. They did hold the right to inspect to make sure I was upholding my obligation to keeps trees cut out of R/W.You could call your county haz mat team and tell them someone left the barrels and they need to dispose of them.

It's very possible that the guys who actually left the stuff there were lost, or ignorant of the circumstances. I've worked a lot of hands in my lifetime, and some of them were as dumb as a bag of hammers, and a whole lot more were just a few notches above that. I'm sure you'll get to the bottom of it.

Got my call into the VA branch office. Their corporate HQ is actually Greeneville. They were very nice and also aggravated at what had happened and are trying to run down source. And they were especially shocked when I explained it is fenced and gated land. I asked, and they said they were not doing any sub work for AEP so that eliminates ROW work I guess. Now I'm confused. There is a new 42" gas transmission line being installed 5 miles down the road but doubt they are the source. They tend to go big time on their stockpiles. Good news is cameras hadn't picked up any strangers within my land and nothing was stolen. Luckily went to church yesterday and I remained calm but made it clear I was not a happy camper and if it is a chemical, several people could be liable for storage on my property. We shall see.

What is in the barrels? Sounds like someone from out of the area dumping waste and is 1000 miles away by now. But if you're like me, it's a product that I ordered myself, and promptly forgot, then after I loudly blame everyone else I remember again.

Did you get this figured out
My main concern was what could be in the barrels if I got rid of them. Talked today manager of plant that had shipping label on top of barrel. He said they dont sale or share those with anyone but are put in to be disposed of. So dead end. He did say they were empty when disposed. Ill be going by farm today so if it doesn't snow too much, I'll stop in to see if they are still there. My guess is the guys that manage the fiberoptic transmission cable that shares the power ROW prob use it for some storage of cleaners. That's all I know now. I would call local EPA but I don't want to open that can of worms. Besides the poor guys prob arent getting paid from govnt shutdown and I wouldn't want to wake them. LOL

Our county has a household hazardous waste disposal station. This type of situation is exactly why they are there. I have dropped off everything from old paint, to asbestos and chlordane. They take and dispose of it all....

Theres nothing I know of that we use for fiber optics that come in 50 gal barrels unless it's poly water and that is used to pull fiber in duct that is buried. What were barrels labeled

Well mystery solved. After talking to half the people on the east coast and checking with neighbors and friends to no avail, I happened to ask my son who I talk to all the time, and of course he was the one who put them there. He had gotten them for water storage if we would need them. Have been cleaned and ready for use. Will connect them to downspout for some free water supply. Go fig. He had just forgotten to tell me. This is why kids make you have no hair. Anyways, good ending, just glad I was polite to everyone I contacted.

I have friends who will throw empty beer cans or a bag of trash in my yard to just rag me. So I had decided it mustve been one of them being funny. Had just gotten off phone this morning questioning 2 of them and they both denied anything and I really didn't believe them. They were positioned so neatly I'm surprised didn't pursue my son about it more quickly. I once had friend pick the lock at my house to borrow catchup, another spread cheese on my manifold of my car that smelled like crap for a month, and once had my bow targets taken and brought back after I made another. I need new friends.... and family maybe. Of course I won't mention my deeds such as stealing all buddies dirt bikes one night when he forgot to shut garage door. About had coronary and police were all but doing DNA swabs of the place. Had a great ride on one of his bikes that day before I brought them back. Covered in mud of course.

Wow, I now fell bad about calling AEP and cussing them out for you...….I was just trying to help you friend...….I told them that I was you.....
No problem. I have a friend who is a district higher up with AEP and I had already questioned him if they had been working that county ROW. He denied any. But you know how those guys are with utilities:rolleyes:
