Pinetag's Plot - 43 acres in Virginia

Went by my dad's house to get the old recliner to take out to the cottage so I figured while I was there I'd get some acorns to direct seed. Do you think they have enough to spare?

After today I'm about 99% done with the flooring. Thank goodness!

Also checked one of my cameras near the river and not getting a whole lot of pics so I will probably move that camera soon. A few healthy looking does here and there but still no bucks.

Took the afternoon off to finally fix the bridge. Here's a reminder of what it looked like after the flooding back in May.

We dug out from underneath it enough to lift the near side with the tractor.

Then we lowered it down and backfilled it, then packed it all down.

Tested to see if it would support the weight of the tractor and there was almost no deflection.

Next steps will be to take down the tree on the other end and then I can finally bushhog a trail along the river. It will have to wait until after the season though, not to mention the fact that it is still way too wet to do anything anyway after hurricane Michael came through. Had some minor flooding/standing water and it drowned out my winter rye so I tossed some more down this evening.

I officially finished the flooring today!! I did some baseboard trim as well but for now I'm pretty much done with cottage stuff other than putting in the second toilet. That shouldn't take more than 30 mintues. Starting next week it will be all about the hunting!

Finally, its hunting time! First ever sit as a property owner and had a small buck (spike or 4pt) come in 20 minutes after getting settled. I was running a few minutes late so it was just getting light but what a great start to this little place!

I've got to say today was a great day in the woods and I have to give everybody on this forum a ton of credit in helping me! I have learned a great deal from y'all about low impact hunting, stand setups, hinge cuts, creating travel routes, food plots, etc and I think that helped me to have such an exciting and successful day. It definitely exceeded my expectations and the only thing that could have made it better would have been to see a mature buck, but I'm thrilled with the way everything turned out! I look forward to all of the new and exciting things the future has to hold.

I had 6 separate encounters with at least 7 distinct deer. 1) - small buck at first light. 2) - a mama doe and fawn @ 9:00 AM. 3) - a small spike @ 4:55 PM. 4) - 2 small bucks chasing a small doe @ 5:15 PM 5) - same small spike @ 5:20. 6) - 6 deer (2 mamas and 4 fawns) @ 5:30 PM. I also saw 2 turkeys right along the edge of the woods near the yard while I was taking a lunch break.

Since I didn't make it out to the land today I figured I'd see what I could get accomplished from home regarding habitat work, so I printed off an aerial photo and laminated it. I used packing tape on both front and back with overlapping edges so it shouldn't peel apart and then I just cut off the excess. It's got my future habitat plans already on it and being laminated I can mark deer sightings/travel directions to get a better idea of how the deer use the property. I do need to get some better erasable markers with finer tips as the current ones make the lines (in red) too fat.

Got skunked this morning so I came in to eat some lunch, install toilet #2, and make sure the muzzleloader was still sighted in for the opener on Sat. One shot was all that was needed! Headed back out soon for the evening sit.

I think I found a Chestnut Oak (can anyone confirm) on my walk out this morning and I'd like to transplant it. Should I wait until early spring?
