Introduce yourself

Hey!!!! Whats up? My name is Calvin, Im from La and live in SETx. I hunt in probably the most difficult county in Tx, Newton County. Lots of illegal pressure there. I have been hunting for 51 years....man that's a long time. I mainly bowhunt and just recently picked up my rifle again to deer hunt. I am married with 4 children, I am a Christian man that loves the LORD and HIS creation. I believe I should be a steward of the land and all that's in it, as one way of showing my love for Christ and a witness for him. I look forward to being on this website and learning as much as I can. I have been practicing Wildlife management for a lot of years, but believe I can still learn.

Glad to be here, Calvin, aka, Sir miss Alot

Welcome Calvin ! I hunt a place not too far from you in Trinity Co. Big woods hunting can be hard, but food plots, if you have a place to put them, can make it a little easier. I was fortunate enough to have a three quarter acre opening where I was allowed to hunt and the plot has really made a difference.

Hunting in general, and especially food plotting for deer hunting, is a journey, and we learn as we go. There is lots of knowledge here, some of it doesn't apply as much to the SE Texas Pineywoods as it does to other areas, but it still makes for good reading.

Yessir, I hunted Batson a couple of years bavk, thats not to far from Trinity.

I have 3 small plots, I only hunt one. The pineywoods has so much for them to eat a plot is more dessert than meal.

Looking forward to more conversations. Sir Miss ALot...out!

Welcome aboard Sir Miss A Lot! Great bunch of guys on this site and will be made even better since you joined. Look forward to your contributions.

My name is Matt. I used to be fairly active on the QDMA forums under the names "Younghunter" and then later "mdweber2".

I caught the habitat bug in high school while trying to improve my family's land in Wisconsin. After I graduated from college, I worked for three years for a land trust improving wetlands, prairies, and oak savannas. Then, I spent 2 years in California studying river restoration and geomorphology, and now I work for an engineering company that specializes in river, wetland (and some coastal) enhancement projects. Last fall I moved to Charlottesville, Virginia.

Anyone else living in Central Virginia... feel free to say hi or private message me.

-Matt

With your interests and hands on experience in habitat restoration your input will be a great addition here. Why don't you start a thread on improving wetlands, prairies and oak savannas! I have oak ridges and would like to transform some to oak savannas but don't know where to start...

Hello.

I’m brand new to hunting, and hoping to get (or at least see) my first deer this year with my bow. I live on Cape Cod, where the deer are apparently overpopulated but there isn’t a ton of hunting land. I’m hoping you guys can give me some good pointers, tips, tricks, etc. that I didn’t get from hunters education. If anyone is from the area, and doesn’t mind taking a noob under his/her wing, I would love some direct advice.

I look forward to meeting y’all.

Cheers,

-Ricky

Welcome Ricky, to the forum and hunting in general. I know absolutely nothing about the specifics of deer hunting on Cape Cod, so hopefully someone in your general area will chime in.

John Volkman , live in NE wi , door county just south of sturgeon bay. Avid hunter and fisherman and love habitat management ( not just for deer) of all types. I'm a manufacturers rep for multiple outdoor/hunting product manufacturers. I spent quite a bit of time on the old QDMA forums years ago and since migrated to other forums with past members and jsut recently found this one.

Welcome John. Hope you like it here; there are a lot of people from the old forum here and a few new ones as well.

Names Derek and I'm 25 from New York. Recently bought a house with a small amount of land, about 17 acres. Never grew up hunting or around it, but did shoot archery for a few years and always loved the outdoors. Trying to pick up as much knowledge as I can before I go out this upcoming October for whitetail. This forum has been great as it covers so many topics! I'm out nearly every day shooting from an elevated platform as I'll mostly hunt from a stand. At this point I'm just trying to gather as many supplies and accessories as I can. I look forward to continue to read through the topics and learn as much as I can. Thanks!
