Question for Baker (or others that observe giant deer often).

I had an outfitter share with me this year that they had a 2yr old on camera pushing 200” with 22 scoreable points”.

I cannot buy this. This was in Fulton County IL where I hunt and own land.

I just can’t see it. Not doubting the 200” or 22 points... just can’t see a 2yr deer doing that.

Question: what’s the biggest 2yr old you have documented?

I have family that own and operate a high fence down south. I have seen yearlings throw a 160" rack and 2 year olds throw 200"+ racks more than you would think. I'm sure if all the conditions lined up its not unreasonable to think a 2 year old free range deer could do the same. Now as for seeing big deer I do a great job for the neighbors who don't work and sit in a deer stand all day. They see and kill plenty of big deer....lol

Assuming there has not been introduced genetics and he is dealing with a native un manipulated herd that would be extraordinarily rare. I would want to see pictures. I've never seen a 200" 2 yr old. I have only seen one 200" 3 yr old. Get him to show pics.Bucks produced from breeder pens or enhanced genetics... happens all the time.IMG_5467.JPG.jpeg

Here is a pic of the only 200" [ best guess ] 3 yr old I have ever seen.

Thanks Baker. My guess is he is 3 or 4 and just skinny. I would say as far as Midwest goes Fulton produces as many Booners as just about anywhere. Still seemed extreme to me.

I don't have any experience with mid western bucks. Maybe its possible???

Off to the ranch.

Just my two cents, take it for what its worth since I have never seen a 200" deer, but I would believe that such a deer would certainly be possible. The Hanson buck was supposedly only 3 years old, and sported a rack over 210 inches of pure typical antler. Seems reasonable enough to me that some freaky non-typical genetics could through a deer with 200" worth of bone at 2 years old.
