Advice on wounded buck

Congrats. Way to get in there and finish what you started.. Awesome buck!

Could you figure out exactly what the first bolt did?

Theres a small entry hole in the shoulder where the broadhead went in. Its not in there anymore though. Havent skinned him out yet. The shoulder doesnt feel broken but we will see. He was limping pretty bad, wasnt infected. As long as the coyotes didnt get him I think he would've been fine

Almost identical situation just occurred on a lease where I hunt. A friend put an arrow in the right shoulder of a buck. The arrow also broke off about 5" above the broadhead. This buck did not go down and although we were able to track him and saw him 2 hours later, we could not get another shot. 2 1/2 weeks later, another hunter on the same stand as the original hunter was able to get a good clean shot at him. He was limping badly, had lost weight and had a broken shoulder. I don't think he would have lasted a lot longer. But he did stay in the same area and went back to his old feeding routine. Possible, spending a few days hunting the same area might be productive.

Nice Job Mallory. Great looking buck!
looking back over this thread Gator needs a pat on the back too for encouraging you to go back after it. Obviously solid advice!

You did get a fine buck, but you should really work on your safety when not in the stand. That loaded crossbow in the picture might seem safe to some, but if it go off there could be problems. I picked a young boy about a week ago that thought it was OK to have a loaded crossbow on the front of the $ wheeler until he ran it into a washout and the bow went off. Good thing for him that I was in my stand about 70 yards from him and seen it happen. Otherwise he might have been pushing up daisy's.
