Any dove hunters?

My sun flowers are doing ok this year. I have about five acres of peredovik. Half are pretty clean. I am going to plant two five acre plots next year so am going to try the clearfield. A few doves on mine already. About half are now in the drying stage. Maybe fifty or sixty doves. Will start bush hogging some strips in another couple of weeks.

Used to love to dove hunt. Such a pain any more. You spend money and time planting a field only to have drought set in, deer eat it all, or the ever present neighbors baiting scheme most often ignored by the local game warden due to all the county judges being there. LOL

Absolutely love dove hunting ! Here in La. not only is it a blast but it also has important symbolism. If you use your imagination, the dove opener means you survived summer...no small feat here. It also means there will be something to hunt almost non stop till Feb. Plus college football starts. Geaux Tigers! All good things. Was just checking my sunflower field and a decent crop of birds is starting to show up.

I'm off to Mexico for a dove hunt next weekend. That is an altogether different experience than stateside. It's almost hunting season....at last!

Dove season opens today!!! LSU plays tonight!!! And with a little imagination I can detect a whisper of coolness in the air. OK ...a lot of imagination. Let the games begin.

Doves were here all summer and a week before dove season they all picked up and left...1 day doves everywhere and the next, all gone...

Our 1/3 acre peredovic sunflower patch really outdid itself. I just finished the last hunt of the year. Grand total was 101 in 5 hunts.

I had to really work for them today and sat a long time as they are very educated and wary at this point, but it was a good way to end an already fantastic year. Putting the field in was a lot of work but it was certainly worth it this year.

That's amazing for not having sunflowers. Did you have millet or just mow weeds?

I've been hitting some chopped corn silage fields. It's the only game in town. I don't even know of a sunflower field in my County.

Dove hunting is huge here in California. I don't know very many people that work on the opener. Our season is split. 2 weeks in September then Nov 11 - Dec 25. Limit is 15/day except for Spotted Dove, and Ringed Turtle Dove which have no limit. Eurasians are year round with no limit, of course. Got 3 Eurasians on the opener so I ended up with 18 dove. I live in the Central Valley so it's all farms and we also have public land.
