Worked these last few weekends clearing a new plot on the northwest corner or our land next to a new 8x8' fence line stand we built last year. Here's what Iv got done so far.

this plot should be twice the size maybe 3 times the size of what's shown.

Broke the valve stem off the front tire on the tractor.

Liking the blind and the sliders. Been searching CL for some decent used sliders for months now with no luck.

I like the stand pictures! Land clearing is hard work and hard on equipment and valve stems are at a vulnerable spot. What are you planning to plant in this new plot? What's the soil like? (nice tractor)

Nice Blind and setup! That kind of work tests the limits of the tractors for sure. What else will be added to draw the deer and encourage them to hang out there?

Great stand. You could move in.
Agree with chain om testing limits of tractor-dozier. I have to hold back and decide some things should not be done. But those stray sticks and stumps can get you. Glad you are a handy man!

Soil is ok there are some rocks and stumps around the area but the soil is black underneath. As far as what I'm going to plant I was thinking of getting it going with a mix of red & white clovers , oats and chicory. In our main plot I have about 1ac of corn/bean mix in strips to break up the larger plot. The other areas are planted in medium red and ladino clovers.

I'd be open to any and all suggestions tho! Fire away!!!

A new plot location in what used to be a wooded area?
1) Soil survey, which will tell you to apply a lot of lime
2) Buckwheat, planted when soil temps reach mid-60's (early to mid-June, depending on location)
3) Allow BW to set seed
4) Around 8/15, broadcast LC rye+4 (with chicory is fine) and then mow BW. No discing or tilling...just mow.

A mix of red & white clovers, oats and chicory is one of my favorites. And with some black dirt it should grow. If the thought of a good stand on a great food plot on the first evening of archery season doesn't get a person's heart pumping he or she is not a hunter.
