Skunkwerks barndominium build

Thanks! I haven't been back up since muzzleloader season so I have nothing new. We had some setbacks with the two garage doors, contractor ordered non insulated doors and they should have been insulated then they reordered them after I caught the first f up and he reordered them in white and they needed to be sandstone color again I caught the mistake. New doors are on there way now!

Great work and following along as this is my ultimate goal once i find a piece of property. Keep all the pics and details coming!!

Ditty, please keep the updates coming. I've been contemplating a polebarn/shop for a while. Is there a reason you didn't go with spray on insulation?

Few reasons I didn't. One the cost. Another one was that I was able to install the foam flush with the girts and have some insulation then have electrical work done then do R30 rolls over the foam for a total of R37.5 in the walls.

Also I didn't like the fact of having the spray foam on he metal and some folks say it won't stick well to the tyvek and I wasn't ripping that out!

These are all very valid reasons. I have often thought about the challenge we would have replacing a sheet of tin if we ever needed. We sprayed directly on the tin and I can't imagine trying to get the two apart. Our wiring layout is also kinda set in stone on the exterior walls. We realized after we were about to move in that we wanted an additional outlet under our TV. Not as easy as fishing a new wire behind the drywall... It did make for a very tight building, but you got the Tyvek for that. Very cool project.

Nice barn Ditty! It looks like you found a good builder. The extra roof you have around the door area will be a real pleasure when you go there in the winter.

We are super interested in this. We live in Northern Wisconsin too, and are thinking of selling our home and doing this. We are wondering are you able to finance a barndominium ? Is it hard getting insurance ? We would need to find land as well. About how much is the cost? Thank you so much. Your place looks amazing

Updates!!!

Made it up this weekend and put some work in.

The building crew was able to finally make it back to finish the divide wall from the shop to the living quarters!!! Seeing this really made it feel like something.

we then started to insulate the inside of this wall and install some outlets on this wall facing into the shop area.

My good buddy came up to help and we took some time to do some shooting.

Thanks for taking the time to post these. Really helps with us dreamers!

The far wall in the post above - is that sheetrock? so from the outside: metal, Tyvek, 1.5" styro, R30 roll glass, then sheetrock?

Whats the plan on insulating the roof?

The wall with Sheetrock is the wall dividing the shop from the living quarters, it's rocked with 5/8 fire rock then on the back side is 1.5in r7.5 insulation. The outside walls of the barn are metal then tyvek then 1.5 foam insulation and yes then r30 rolls over that. The ceiling will be tongue & groove then vapor barrier then r30 or r38 rolls with some blow in insulation on top of that.

Few updates over the last few months.

started getting my shop area going. Built a nice heavy duty work bench & vise. Installed an air hose reel and extension cord reel.

The Chevy dealer I work for was getting new front desks so I brought one up north for a bar!

Then the concrete guys came out and did the final grade work and put the foam insulation & vapor barrier down.
