"Whitetail Hollow" - 90 Acres NE Oklahoma.

Funny the things we "share" trees with. I had a stand a few years ago that a small screech owl called home. He was rather perplexed at me being there. He would get pretty close - I would assume in an effort to scare me off. He didn't realize I was bigger than him! I have also had a coon come down a tree before nearly right into my lap.....that was a little more uncomfortable on my end!

Hope you get you some antlers Okie!!!!

You off the next 3 days? I have a 3 day weekend but I'm done hunting deer. There is still several shooters out around my place but taking 2 nice bucks off my 160 is enough pressure. Just going to stay out of there and give the deer a break. As soon as 2nd duck season opens Belle and I will be out chasing greenheads.

good luck

I am off but mom is having some health issues and I am basically "on call" right now. Behavioral type :(

Rut is winding down here too. Not seeing much chasing now. Deer have been pressured so much there almost nocturnal now. Not hitting plots till almost too dark to see! Not seeing the big bucks like I was a week ago. Almost over!

Haven't updated in awhile so thought I would post a few pics.

Saturday morning I got an old doe with my bow on our deer lease I have been hunting for 4 years. I was really surprised to see her in person because I have only laid eyes on her 3 times in 4 years due to her nocturnal nature. She is the epitome of "the old dry doe"...hasn't had fawns the entire time I have been after her and no telling how long before that...

2627.JPG This is the buck I was hoping to see when I got the doe. I am right next to his bedroom when I hunt this stand. Bobcats tilted the camera...Big 7 point.

1797.JPG Going to roll back over to Whitetail Hollow now...

North Plot.

Food plots are really taking a beating. Certainly going to have t put more acreage into food this coming year!

Pics I took of north plot today...this is the final year for "north plot". I am planting it to cover and mast. Where it is located is better for my neighbors than it is for our purposes...

The following pics are South Plot which is going to be more than doubled in size this winter via dozer...deer will travel the length of our property to reach this plot.

Hi Doug...

Yep on the fence sitters, I guess they got the google update and saw a small green patch and it drew them like a magnet to the fence. Brad (Brushpile) and I talked to one of them on day 2 of Oklahoma rifle season... From now on that plot is going to be Pines, cedars, and blackberry vines...maybe a couple persimmon... place to bed or pass through at best for the deer. I will miss the turkey hunting on the clover right there because it was outstanding but the turkeys will adapt and move to our southern end...

Extremely dry conditions...didn't get the traditional fall rains like we have in the past and I honestly cannot remember the last rain that was more than 3/10ths...seems like a lifetime ago when we got that...

Congrats on the Grandpup! There is a reason they call them "grand"!

With almost no rain for nearly 90 days, our radishes look more like baby carrots. Plenty of moisture the past 2 weeks and the food plots have responded with a nice green up, particularly the grains.

Too bad the fence sitters are causing you to change your plans. Sounds like you have possibly a better plan in store though.
Your turnips and radishes look good!

I have been following the drought in your area. It was terrible but I am glad you guys are seeing rain now! In our area we would get a 10th or 2 every couple of weeks but never anyting more than that. It was enough to germinate and grow some modest plots but we haven't gotten a rain that would help a tree root since beginning of August. Lots of dead mature trees around now including some pines on home 10 that I thought were well established enough to survive since they are about 4-5 years old... We are still dreaming of a 1" rain!

I am getting ready to revamp my whole process of hunting our place for next fall. As soon as this season is officially closed (January 15th) I am going to be changing it up drastically. I am going to perimeter hunt the East side. I have not done this in the past because I didn't want to "fence sit" but now I am going to set a couple stands 50 yards in and facing our place to target deer that travel to and from the east. I am going to be doing a bunch of hack and squirt on Hickories, lots of chainsaw and hinge cuts on junk trees, more dozer work on our southern end and prescribed fire in a couple sections of our place with firebreaks done while dozer is there. Looking into a fishing type pond as well if we have enough clay where I want to dig to line it...

Turnips and radishes are basically done for the year...
