Goodness - three out of four in one day. Handler and tracking dog need some R & R.
75% recovery with that many is super. Was very much traveling involved in these four tracking jobs?
I find these events my favorite reads on this forum. I guess we all love a deer story and these are eventful deer stories.

These deer were all recovered in Southwest Missouri. I was busy with close calls so was unable to do much traveling. I had several calls where hunters did everything wrong, and I didn't take those calls; those hunters grid searched, spreading deer blood and hoof scent everywhere, and then called me after the track was adulterated and too old!

The story of this track ends is sandburs, lots and lots of sandburs!!! I put Elkie on blood and she froze, and wouldn't move at all; then I saw the sandburs and found 4-6 on each foot. I combed the burs out, but Elkie acted she was walking through a minefield! Elkie hadn't walked 10 feet when she froze again, and every foot was covered in sharp sandburs. There was no possible way for Elkie to track so I picked her up and carried her to a safe location.
Had there not been sandburs Elkie had a good chance of finding the buck
Poor "Little Elkie", she never gets any respect, because she's small and doesn't look impressive.... until she stands on a big buck!!! There were no sandburs to halt Elkie when she tracked a big buck that left a very meager and short blood trail. The track was over 600 yards and Elkie tracked a quarter mile with NO BLOOD, in terrible tracking conditions, (hot/dry). The track went through woods, across a field of tall weeds and grass, crossed a blacktop road, through another field of weeds and tall grass and into another woods.
This was Elkie's second recovery today and she is currently dead to the world, from sniffing and giving those bucks what for!!!
Elkie's first track was a 10 point I shot. I've had very little hunting time, and took what limited opportunity afforded. I was lucky to get this buck because my first tracking call came at 6:30 AM!

It's amusing to see the doubt that Elkie wipes off a hunter's face. Elkie is a funny little dog, but she produces amazing results.Congratulation Brad.
A well deserved buck. Elkie is a valuable dog. Must feel good to know that if a deer can be found - your dog will find it.
I sure enjoy all of the photos and stories. Thanks for posting and sharing.
