1st Food plot

A little background, I just bought 120 acres off my father in law. Probably 20 acres woods the rest pasture/hay fields. I have a couple spots in mind for food plots, so I started a 1 acre "test" plot. Looking back I should have done a throw and mow buy here's what I did. 2 weeks ago I sprayed 1 acre of a established orchard grass/clover field with gly. Burned that off last Monday, then dragged with a harrow to loosen the dirt. Broadcast a 50# mix of WR, AWP, Turnip, WW, and clover on Tuesday and pulled a field roller over and waited for rain on wensday. The rains never came so on Saturday I over seeded with 50# wr, 2# lidino clover, and 25# awp. Had a shower on it at noon today with more coming tonight. Hope to learn alot here. I enjoy reading the post on this site.

Thanks, I tried to post pics earlier, not to tech smart. Probably have to have the kids help me with that. Getting a good rain now, hope to see progress. Love the site

You may need to use a snipping tool to resize some pictures of they are to large. A few of us ran into that problem.

Well I figured out how to post pics, just need to learn to add text. Here's the time line off my 1st plot. Sept 11 sprayed gly, Sept 19 burned off and drag with harrow, Sept 20 broadcast seed and rolled with field roller, no rain on 21st as forcasted, Sept 24 over seeded and rolled again, had 3/4" of rain o 25th, Sept 28 started seeing sprouts, and today Oct 2 I see good growth. We have had heavey due but Could use some more rain. Next rain forcasted is wensday into Thursday. I did spray gly on Friday Sept 30 on plot #2 planning on a T&M. More pictures to follow

3 weeks in, and the WR,WW,turnips, clover and AWP all coming up. There are a few bare spots but I do see some sprouts started. Had 2 does and a fawn on it on saterday . Planning on broadcasting some more WR in a week just to layer it. killed this gal off it this afternoon. Have about 25 in front of the house every day . Be eaten good tonight!
