Live from the stand 2021

On stand...deer are really on these acorns! I got here at 4:00 and have seen 3 does and a buck so far scarfing up white oak acorns.

Tonight was a fun hunt. It was one of those days where you just knew deer were going to move. I loaded up my hunting supplies into my truck before work so that I could leave right at 4:30.

Made it to the stand by 5:40 and had 3 young bucks out in front of me by 6. Around 6:30 I saw a doe that was acting squirrelly. I soon heard the sound of antlers crashing together in the woods but couldn’t see the fighting bucks. A minute after the fighting stopped this guy stepped out for a second before disappearing back into the woods. A couple of grunts from my grunt tube had him running back out with his ears back - he was looking to continue the fight. When he turned broadside, I shot and watched him run off straight away from me. He only ran about 50 yards.

Rack is very cool and his body was huge. The processors scale was broken but there’s no doubt he weighed over 200 lbs.

Pretty uneventful morning with 0 sightings. About 30 minutes after I got in the stand I had a deer blowing to my north. I guess my scent cone could have gotten to it but the wind was out of the SW, blowing toward the road. This deer was due north of me and ending up walking down in front of me (west) and blowing every couple minutes. It never ran, just walked through blowing for a good 15 minutes. I definitely picked the wrong spot though because I've gotten 3 cell notifications from another stand with what looks like a doe and 1 or 2 bucks. That was a couple hours ago. If the wind prediction holds true, I should be sitting the lower 20 this afternoon...hopefully with some better luck.

Congratulations on the big old and very unique buck!

Uneventful evening sit as well. I had to replace the batteries on my Tactacam so I pulled the card to get a better idea of what the buck looked like this morning. He was about a 15-16" 8 pointer and he chased a doe in front of the camera a couple times. It looked like he was trying to mount her at the end of the video clip so I took a screenshot.

You know how I know it’s muzzleloader season in Oklahoma? It has rained solid for 24 hours at this point and isn’t supposed to stop raining for another 20 hours and the wind is 16-50 mph and that’s not supposed to stop till after midnight on Friday...

Keep your powder dry !:)

The rain stopped about 6:15 am so I grabbed my gear and headed out into the wet and windy for the oaks because the deer seem to really be on the white oak acorns. I was in my stand well before light and just waited. In the pale early light a bit later I could see deer moving through the white oak patch...it got lighter and lighter until I could make out 2 does pretty well and as I watched them I saw them get nervous and bolt a few yards. I looked the way they were looking and my #2 buck came walking up from the creek bottom feeding on acorns. #2 is a buck I called Broke Leg 9 as you can see from this photo a year ago I had of him.

I had opportunity after opportunity last year but I passed on him hoping he would make it to see what he would turn into. I decided to take him this year based on trail cam photos I got that shows he put on quite a lot of antler since last year.

I squeezed the trigger on my TC Encore and the 245 grain Powerbelt slammed into him and he DRT! I watched from the stand for a bit to make sure he wasn’t going to get up but he died extremely quick. I had more does come in while I was watching him. I got down and put my seat cushion on him and headed to the house for the truck and saw another stud buck chasing does and then I saw even more deer walking out. I saw 16 deer altogether...now back to bowhunting for #1...
