"Whitetail Hollow" - 90 Acres NE Oklahoma.

Well my work on the property this year has been really simple...I limed and fertilized the main clover plot, sprayed Clethodim for grass, and brushhogged for weeds and today I sprayed the roads and that has been the gist of it other than tweaking a couple of stands. I have heard the guys across the fence hammering on something across the fence so it looks like I will have company again this year...they were hard on the buttonheads, does, and 1 3.5 year old buck last year...

I went walkabout for about a week up in SD and Wyoming and I checked cam cards today...

Sometimes really mature old deer just don’t grow 200” racks...he’s not completely done growing but his age alone puts him on the short list...



Passing every buck I see unless he is really old still paying off...this year we have several 4.5’s, a couple 5.5’s, and my old pal who is 8.5” along with the old guy pictured above...












I am really Proud of this following picture...




And my old friend the gobbler I let walk by me many times during turkey season...



A Jake found our property as well so maybe turkeys will make a comeback...

Nice update. That deer with the long G2s is going to be a beauty. The others look great too.

I also sprayed some cleth last week. When the grass clumps die, I’m planning on spreading some food plot seed in the bare spots.

I feel like a slacker this year but I have been putting most of my energy into work, the grandsons, and traveling with my wife and family...my clover is so good this year I hate to do anything to it except maintenance...I hate to say it but I will probably chisel plow 1/2 of the plot and put down radishes, rye grain, wheat, oats, and more clover seed to try to get the clover through winter...I have noticed when I do this the plot always goes right back to thick, lush clover the following summer...

I need to be spraying RM43 total vegetation control but I am spraying what I have which is 41% Glyphosate. It seems to work but I have to spray the trails twice a summer...

I’m glad to see you have some poults running around. I’m hearing lots of reports of poults in the south this year which is great news since they are declining in numbers. With all the rain we had this spring you wouldn’t think a single poult would have survived. I read where Oklahoma has set the season opener for 2022 back a couple of weeks and went to a one tom bag limit. That may effect your season next year. Arkansas moved there season opener this year back and by the time turkey season opened the turkeys had stopped gobbling.

Well it has been a week to the day since my last update...I went over to set up the Banks Feed Bank 4 port feeder since I finally broke down yesterday and went and got corn. Last fall I gave $5.30/50 lb bag...now that same 50 lb bag is $8.60

I checked the cams and the same thing has happened so far that happens every summer...I sprayed all the roads a week ago and I haven’t had a more than 2.5 yr old buck pic since. This is very common here and the deer just won’t take pressure and the scent of my mixed glyphosate and dawn dish detergent is something they don’t like...a few doe pics, 1 yr olds and 1 2 yr old is it...

How long does it take them to usually come back to the feeders?

I do the same process every year about the same time and normally I start seeing them come back the first week in August so to answer your question 1 month...

I’ve been meaning to ask for awhile now, how many times do you you spray your clover with clethodim and at what rate per acre?

Not to answer for Okie, but we spray ours at the highest recommended rate — 16 oz to the acre.

KSQ2 answered it...16 oz acre. My clover is going on 7 years old now so this year I believe just going off memory early April, late May, and will spray 1 more time mid August. I Brushhog it 3 times a year as well and I try to do it with rain in the forecast. I was out in it today looking to see what coming up in it and I was amazed at how great it still is all these years later. I am going to plow part of it up next month to put in brassicas, wheat, more clover...

Well...I knew it was just a matter of time before bears would make it up my way...we have had them a few years in the southern part of the county but they keep expanding their range...

A little friendly advice from someone that has dealt with bears for several years now. Pull the feeder now or you will never get rid of the him and he will destroy the feeder if it’s left in place now that he’s found it.

Yes...I have had many of them destroyed on our deer lease. I put that feeder up the day before the bear showed up and it still has approximately 250 lbs of corn in it right now. I am going to try to save as much as I can because corn is literally gold right now!

Been a few...the wife, grandson, and I had been planning a trip to the Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk Ohio at Summit Motorsports Park for many months now so we loaded up the GTO on our little open trailer on our old Ram pickup and headed the 16 hours to it. We had an amazing time! Here is a little vid of my car running...I went several rounds and won some money while there as well. Good times!










Got home and checked the cam and Mr. Bear cleaned out the feeder but he didn’t tear it up so that a good thing. I haven’t refilled it hoping he will leave...




It’s been about 3 weeks without rain and been very hot and the clover is just about Kaput. I want to plant a fall plot but we need rain in the forecast. I went out today and checked the cams again and brushhogged the weeds out of the plot and I think I have a lot of possibilities this year...including my target from last year (first buck).



This buck looks similar to him but it’s a different one with only a sticker off one G2 instead of both and a lot younger.




Buck in the background is the broke leg 9 this year...he made a 10th point.



Just Random deer...



Maybe plot planting in a couple of weeks if we get rain!
