Burn burn burn

Literally, last six years have been too wet to burn my garden off in Feb or Mar. I used to work in Nat Res Management - would burn hundreds of acres - maybe into the thousands every spring. No way could you do that anymore where I live. Love a good burn.

Natural re-seeding on those LL?

No - when we logged a few years ago the loggers left some loblolly so it didn’t look like a nuclear wasteland. We planted 650 longleaf per acre and will harvest the remaining loblolly when it’s time to thin the longleaf.

I LOVE burning off the southern pine woods. It has to be something in my DNA that I got from my dad who grew up in Tift County. It’s something I just have to do.

Burn day is one of my favorite days of the year.

We have been trying to do some burning. Hard to get all the right weather parameters in place to burn the things we need burned. Did a couple of brush/log piles this winter with ok success. Wanted snow cover before we burned those do to embers possibly getting into tall dry grass, but then it rained an 1" before it snowed. Things were a little damp and had a hard time getting things burning even with a diesel infusion. Burned part of the farm we are trying to clean out so that we can remove the volunteer trees and get somebody to hay, that burn we got burned (pun intended) wind was too variable on that day and needed to put in a call to our township FD, because it got too hot on us too fast burn direction became unpredictable. I was afraid it was going to get into the neighbors pasture. Mostly had it under control again by the time the FD showed up. Burned some again yesterday, nothing like torching a 5' native grass stand, that will keep you warm on a cold day!:) Probably try to burn on Monday and Wednesday again next week (right wind direction and safe speed), after that we need to move onto the rest of the spring tasks.

Bought a backpack blower and have a burn permit in hand. Just need good burn weather and time out of the office to line up.
