"Whitetail Hollow" - 90 Acres NE Oklahoma.

People are always talking about Kansas, when I see your tour it makes me think they should be talking about Oklahoma! You have some great bucks running around. Especially that 8!
Looks like that dozer gave you quite the workout too.
Parts of Oklahoma are decent...it all depends on the neighbors. As long as I can stay on the + side with income over repairs With the dozer I will be OK...I do my own repairs so that helps!

You have some nice bucks coming on there! Looks like a big rain in Okla this morning?
Yes...a few are starting to show up. I have only 2 mineral blocks out on the place and my clover plots are pretty well toasted but we got rain 2 of the last 6 days...none so far today...it’s cool right now though and I wish I was on the dozer on a job. I have 7 lined up right now but the one I had slated for this morning did not return my call this weekend so I decided I would take today to run around and get things done like my truck tag, shipping an intake to California, ordering some parts, and welding on my Brushhog tail wheel assembly...

We have some dandies coming along...no cool plot pictures...

But I finally got a break on the bulldozer jobs and got it home and had a couple of days before my brushhogging jobs kick up. I was across the road looking stuff over and thought I wanted another opening/micro plot so I got on the dozer yesterday and turned solid woods into this, sewed seed, and packed it in with the tracks just before a really good rain hit. I didn’t pick up anything by hand...dozer did everything but throw the seed...

I also cleared this area out and planted in radishes. This was an old dozer row...

Today started off with rain so I put our little Honda car on a trailer and hauled it to a shop for a CEL issue, then took my truck in for tire rotation/balance and then to COOP for spray and surfactant, lunch, then bid 2 jobs and got both and then home to meet Internet provider because internet has been wonkie here for 3 days (router was bad). After all of that I mixed up spray and surfactant and sprayed our largest clover plot which is right around 2.5 acres...the light green areas in the plot are where grasses have mostly taken over. Lots of clover left out there though and it should be fantastic this fall. I used a product called Volunteer which is a fancy high priced name for Clethodim that I had our local COOP order...it amazed them that someone would want to kill grass and leave broadleaf plants lol.

Grass infestations show as lighter green, all the dark green is solid clover.

Way to go. Tell those co-op guys grass is the enemy of clover, and deer don't eat grass.

Great spots. Is that clover patch as big as it looks?
Yes it is...it started off as a small plot in 2014 and I had it expanded twice since then. I have always worked portions of it up and planted other things but this year decided to just keep it all clover because that is what it all is now. I planted a spot that was a dozer pile in the past just to the right into radishes and my new small plot is all the way across this field and about 100 yards through the timber...

It’s all about hay and grazing in my country...nobody plants crops and a few plant food plots but I don’t think they do it seriously...
I have friends in central Missouri who run beef cows, so I understand that culture, white faces vs Angus, and fescue is king, corn fed beef is the best there is, and venison is to feed poor people who can't afford to eat beef. Raising beef cows is a great occupation if someone can figure out how to make it pay, and ranchers are the salt of the earth. I had two dream jobs that I never achieved, professional engineer, and cattle rancher.

The wife and I are going to get a couple of cows for the nearly 30 acres we own down at Home 10...not gonna be cattle barons but we are going to have some to butcher or sell. I had a neighbor up here near Whitetail Hollow ask me why I had fence...told him I might want to run cattle some day...He told me “you can’t run cattle on that”...I told him, “I have a bulldozer, I could be running cattle here by next spring if I wanted...lol”

Make sure you get your appointment for butchering before you buy your cows. Most of the lockers around here are right at a year and a half out right now, and the dates seem to be getting further out by the month. A custom processor wanting to start a business could make bank!
