Fencing property help

There are special regulations with fish and game if you put up a deer fence on the entire perimeter, such as chasingall wild deer off your property first. But that's probably not your intent. I have a friend who had trouble with trespassing and put a deer fence up along that side of the property.

It would be just a small normal size fence not a 8ft fence. Do you guys find that it affects the deer in any way?

I don’t have personal experience, but I know of a lot of guys killing deer in beagle clubs. The standard at beagle clubs is a 4 foot fence with an apron on the bottom.

A 5 strand barb wire fence will not affect deer travel and sometimes make it better by simply tying the top wire down a few inches will start a crossing or put a gate where you want them to cross.I would check to see price difference of barbed vs smooth wire.I don't mean hot wire this is wire just like barbed but no barbs. You could even do 3 wires if you aren't doing livestock.Make sure you put it on the line

I fenced two sides of my 80 here at home because we had a neighbor, to use the term loosely, who liked to ride his four wheeler all over. The first time I saw his tracks on my place I immediately fenced him out. Went ahed and put hog wire up to make it harder for the hogs. It didn’t stop them, but it made them enter in just two or three places and those became ambush spots. My son and I have killed many a tresspassing hog !

My boy built a quarter mile of 4 strand over the last couple days. A day to set corners and pound posts, and half a day to string, stretch, and clip. It's kind of expensive but not to hard to do.

That depends on where you are Cat, I wouldn’t last a couple hours doing that in the heat and humidity that we have right now. Of course I’m an old worn out fart, but just saying. :D

Our highs have only been in the mid 90's this week. We had a stretch of 100's that were kind of an ass kicker. My summer Throw-n-Mow plot was a complete failure this year. Probably the biggest planting failure I've ever had. Hot and no rain for a long time. :(

Fence it. But do your homework first. Be sure that it is on the established property line or it could turn into a huge headache.

I would fence it. Five strand barbed wire materials cost is about $4000 per mile - pre covid. Around here, low end is $2400 per mile for labor. This is done right - by NRCS spec
