Mowing clover?

Here's a few pics of my 3 smaller food plots at our mountain property. Weeds aren't terrible, the taller stuff you see in the pics is WR, WW, WB, & WO that were planted last Fall. Should I bush hog these mainly Clover plots at about 10" high now?

I love seeing nice clover. The backbone of all food plots.
Yes, excellent idea, 10" high. Mow too low, now that it's getting hot,and you could stunt it for a month. Don't mow at all, and some of those weeds will really get established.

I always judge when to mow based on the weather forecast as well. If there is a substantial amount of rain coming up then I’ll go ahead and mow at about an 8” height. No rain and hot temperatures in the forecast equals terrible clover mowing time IME especially in secluded woods plots like you have. One of clovers downfalls is it Just doesn’t do well when conditions are hot and dry.

FWIW I’ve had much better results spraying with @Mennoniteman recipe than I have mowing actually.

Spraying can eliminate some of the need for mowing to control weeds, but there comes a time with every clover patch when it starts to look "old" and mowing gives it new life. But, exactly like you point out, hot and dry is a bad recipe. Clover is a cool season crop.

Mow the weeds. WC, mow when 10-12 in tall and do down to 6-9 in. Never mow past early July south of M/D line until Sept if it needs it then. Or you could just not mow at all, or mow once / yr. I do all the above and unless I'm trying to impress a forum group with my cover picture clover plot, I seldom mow much clover anymore. But it does look ugly and deer have been known to march in protest.

You think they might start a "Clover Plots Matter" movement?
