Are You Skeered?

We already had the spike. There can’t be a second wave because we’re never going to be out of the first wave. Can anyone explain why they fear a second wave in the fall or winter? When and how does this first wave go away?

Infection rate for us now 2.2% despite being open for business for 2 wks and all nursing homes were required testing of pts and staff 2 wks ago. % keeps going down and Some still whining we opened too early yet Lowe’s Walmart’s Kroger’s etc crowded more than normal for a month now. A few wear masks not many.
And as I suspected some are having hard time w a few employees returning to work from fear of losing their free money!! I’ll stop now because if I continue I’ll say what I think and I won’t be able to go to extra church to compensate for my actions as the churches are still limited.

Triple C no longer wearing gloves or mask. Notice grocery stores are about 35% mask wearers and maybe 10% at the most wearing gloves. Hung out with 2 sets of grandkids this weekend complete with hugs n kisses. Being cautious....washing hands more than I ever have and using alcohol hand sanitizer on a regular basis for the 1st time in my life. Prolly going to continue the hand sanitizing and hand washing going forward. No downside I see to that! Ready to end work from home and get back in the office.

I like that "go to extra church to compensate for my actions" why didn't I think of that a long time ago? Except, who wants to live in church?

I had to take Sarge the Wonder Dog to the eye doc in Dallas today. My last two trips up there a month or six weeks ago the traffic was very tolerable. Today, it looked like nobody ever heard of a pandemic. Same idiots driving like, well, idiots and same slowdowns for no apparent reason, ad infinitum. A hundred miles of I 20 was the same ol’ same ol’. But remember, “we’re all in this together !”

Except, some of us ain’t ! Count me in the “ain’t” column.......

I did see this website has redone their modeling and at one point had deaths as low as 60k. Now back up to 135k.

https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america

I think we all know this will spike, it's just when the right time to pull the band aid is what everyone seems to be grappling with. I really don't want the health care systems overwhelmed and leave life/death decisions on the shoulders of nurses, but I understand the sentiment to open right away and "build immunity.

Weird, that links numbers were 72k and some change just last night. Must have just updated today.

We "flattened the curve" which unfortunately in laymen's terms translates to kicked the can down the road.

Research released over the weekend out of the Center for Infectious Diseases and Policy (CIDRAP) finds that COVID will in fact be with us 18-24 months. We prevented everyone from getting infected at the same time but ultimately the same number will still be infected.

We are having a huge laugh in WV as governor Justice seemed to say... although it was a sound glitch.... seemed to say if business “ will follow the Fn guidelines then....”. Most of us love it and wouldn’t care if that’s what really said but the social media jokes and memes have been awesome. Fun times in a bad time. Sure beats have one more ultra rich celebrity telling me we all in this together!!

If the same number will eventually be infected, does that also translate into the same number of deaths? Would that point to excessive shutdowns (note; I said excessive) that hurt the economy, are possibly causing more indirect deaths than they are preventing?

It's the question we will never be able to answer regardless of what we do. Health care systems in some areas (some rural/some urban) have been over capacity and it has revealed what could happen, while other areas have had almost zero impact.

I know Nebraska (we have some doctor friends down there) has been showing they have beds "available" but at least one of their hospitals has been over capacity and have had at least 3 patients die in transit to another hospital for an open bed/ventilator.

So, it's just something we can never answer.

Very situational. But most are at point that hospitals not overwhelmed. Matter of fact laying off staff. That is INSANE

Very. I've been talking with family and friends about restaurants and the like lately. I just have to imagine there is a way to open restaurants in an a la carte type way so you don't have servers going to 20 tables and you just reduce the number of tables or something.

I just don't know how you get certain places to willingly comply.

I saw a note that carnival is planning to start cruises again on August 1st. My first thought was... who is itching to get on a cruise right now?

what hospital is this. We can help. NY has 10,000 extra ventilators willing to be shipped or delivered.

I'm not sure which one specifically, but they live in grand island, NE. I think it's beds as the primary concern. I don't know all the specifics since they aren't IC docs.

Yes.

But, the reason (we were told) to shut down was to prevent the system from being overwhelmed. We’ll never know if it was necessary, not without time travel of course.

It’s pretty obvious that the crushed economy will have a major impact. Will it cause more/less death than the virus? Who knows.

I just wonder how many of these elected officials will lose elections? Or how many governors will have special elections and be removed early? I bet not many.

The catch-22 here with government leaders, school officials, and church leaders as far as making the decision to reopen is that they won't be making that decision for the good of the public, but that they will be making that decision based on their own reputation. If they open too soon, they will get a lot of blame. If they open too late they have the excuse that it was for the good of the people. Therefore; zero incentive for the decision makers to open things up. The interesting thing of note here is how political the timing to open up has become. Conservatives lean towards opening, liberals want to keep things shut by police force to save us from ourselves.

another reason that will hold up some of these States is they simply have got into a position where they can never financially recover. They are past that point so hence no incentive. The incentive now is to bargain with the Feds. They will play hardball for a while and then negotiate. It’s going to get interesting. If you listen to Cuomo and his daily rankings now that’s his plan. Earliest any region in the State can open now would be June by his metrics.

No way I'd go on a cruise, but then, I wasn't a cruise type person before. One thing we learned during COVID19 that surprised us is how much we we miss going out to eat at a restaurant. We'd only get into a restaurant once or twice a week or if we were travelling and my wife cooks better than restaurant food anyway, but a restaurant gave her a break every now and then. Only now that it's gone do I fully realize how going out to eat with friends was a huge social thing that's a lot of fun to do.

I fully agree on both cruise and restaurant. Going out to eat was a good thing.
