Own your Own Whitetail land, but also go on guided, out of state hunts?

Yeah, I have been building points in Iowa and have 5 now, but if I am going to take a week off of work and go hunt somewhere out of state, I want it to be for elk or some other western/up north (Canada/Alaska) pursuit. I don't know if I will ever use those Iowa points. I'd rather go for a sheep...

Own your Own Whitetail land, but also go on guided, out of state hunts?

Curious how many people out there own their own piece of dirt that they manage for whitetails, but also go (whether annually or every few years) on guided hunts? What other types of guided hunts do you go on....also whitetail, or different species alltogether? If whitetail, why do you do that...

    When to apply fertilizer?

Anyone else have a recommendation on WHEN to fertilize? (ie: before you plant, when you plant, after germination, etc.)

Chopper Gen 2 vs Glyco around Planted Pines

Nevermind....upon further research, it appears Imazapyr leaves a residual/stays in the soil for a long time, and I would have a hard time getting anything to grow in a food plot other than maybe legumes, for a year or so.

Chopper Gen 2 vs Glyco around Planted Pines

I have always used Glyco, but now that I am spraying around some planted loblollies, I am wondering if I should switch to something that will not harm the pines in case I get too close with the sprayer on the edges of the plots. I came across Chopper Gen 2 (Imazapyr)....is that what I should be...

    Boss Buck (or similar) Feeders

Well, it's been over a month since I put them out. No sign of any hogs. This pic from this morning is the closest a deer has come....I have used spin feeders in the past and the deer were on them within a couple of days tops, but they are not liking these boss bucks yet. A good buddy of mine who...

    Boss Buck (or similar) Feeders

The Tractor Supply store only had 3 bags of Sportsman Record Rack 20 and 1 bag of Purina Antler Advantage 20, so I bought all 4 bags, along with 8 bags of corn. Hopefully they will take to the protein and then I will buy in bulk, as well as buy more feeders. Triple C, I am nervous about the...

Best Rifle And Caliber for Lightweight Beginner?

The 243 is about perfect for medium/deer sized game, but a 7mm-08 would be a little more versatile if she wants to eventually move up to moose , caribou, or elk. 120gr TTSX out of a 7mm-08 is a thing of beauty and the recoil is slight. Google chuckhawks recoil chart for some ideas of what...

    Boss Buck (or similar) Feeders

Just bought a 600# Boss Buck Protein feeder......I will start with corn and then introduce protein once they are using it. Will follow back up here in case anyone else is in a similar situation and is having the same questions that I posted.

    Boss Buck (or similar) Feeders

I have a 230+ acre farm in the Piedmont region of GA. Approximately 190 acres is old growth woods, mostly hardwoods that produce a ton of acorns every year, 33 acres in 3 yr old planted loblolly pines (converted old fescue field), and 7 acres of food plots. The only thing left I think for me to...

Neighbors Tresspassed, Wrote a Letter Admitting it, & Asked for Permission

I just received a nice response from them saying they understood. I am very relieved and hope that this is the end of it, though I will still deploy some cameras along/re-mark that border. Appreciate the replies

Neighbors Tresspassed, Wrote a Letter Admitting it, & Asked for Permission

So some folks just moved from across the country and onto the bordering land (they live there) next to our farm (we do not). They sent me a letter admitting that they tresspassed, and then asked for permission to use the property. The nerve people have never ceases to amaze me. I sent them a...

    Buck Forage Oats

I plant Buck Forage Oats every year. The deer are in it every day/night from when it sprouts in early November until the Spring. Really does a great job of keeping them on my property until fawning season and spring green up. See attached pic

Will Dog Fennel and other Weeds Choke out Planted Pines?

I had my old fescue cow pasture planted in loblolly back in February of 2016. This is in middle GA (Prior to planting, we had sprayed in June 2015, then burned in Oct 2015) In May of 2016 the weeds had shot up 5 or 6 ft tall and my forester recommended I spray, so we did. Now, a year and...

converting old fields to summer plots....

It takes several years to get 100% rid of that fescue...you really have to be aggressive and not let up. On my food plots that I have been planting for the last several years, spraying manually with glyco 2 weeks before every planting (twice a year), I finally have gotten rid of it. But for the...
