    The Massey

Interesting looking base/pedicel on that one. Looks like "beading" well below the skin line, unless that's actually skull/bone material? I've only seen that once before, and it didn't go all the way around like the one in your pic appears to.

    Another Age Jaw Buck

I'm far from good at this, and it's hard to see dentin versus enamel width in your pictures, but based only on what I think I see, my guess is 3.5, or possibly 2.5 given how little staining is on tooth 3 (i.e., it was replaced recently). Unfortunately, my guess may well be worth only what you...

    Age a Ky buck

It's surprising to me that some 'disappear' for that long, then randomly show back up. But as this particular buck got older he didn't seem to enjoy having his picture taken, so it's possible that he was around sometime during the drought of trail camera pictures and just knew where my cameras...

    Age a Ky buck

Lol, that's almost exactly what I said when Gunner asked how old I thought he was when we were looking at his teeth: "Either he's old - like 8-10 years old - or he's eaten a lot of gravel." Sitting in the stand that evening I got to going over past bucks we had on the place that would have fit...

    Age a Ky buck

I hadn't checked cameras for a week so when Gunner killed the buck I hadn't seen any pics of him. But I think I would have guessed 4-5 years old as well. Gunner noticed his incisors looked beat up. I pulled his jaw and decided he was older than I thought. Really heavy wear compared...

    Age a Ky buck

My son took this buck last week on our Kentucky property. Anyone have an age conjecture? As is often the case, not great photos for aging, but they are what I have. Thanks.

Stone Branch, build it, they will come.

Holy smokes, that's a beauty G. Here's hoping you get to see him during shooting light!

    Live from the Stand 2022

Congrats MM! My son got his first on Saturday. Public land in NC PA. 170# sow. Wish we'd had an extraction rig like yours.

2022 Fruit (and nut) Tree Orders thread

Sorry for the thread hijack. Back on track - So far I have resisted the urge to order anything. I plan to do some top-working again in 2023, but no new plantings. We'll see if I can stick to that plan, or if I cave.

2022 Fruit (and nut) Tree Orders thread

Dug out some pics. April 2013, one year after we planted them. Plums in tubes, and had a couple extra for 2nd row. The rest of that second row is hazelnut, which we also have native on the property. The plums have easily out-competed the hazelnut; the hazelnuts are still there, under the...

2022 Fruit (and nut) Tree Orders thread

I'm sorry for the late response! Somehow I missed seeing this reply earlier. I would say yes, mine do form thickets, but not very rapidly. Granted, I started mine in tubes and that may be a factor, but it was probably 5 years before I noticed root suckers popping up, and then it's just been...

2022 Fruit (and nut) Tree Orders thread

I like. These have been in the ground 10 years, producing fruit for five of those. They do very well at my place in Kentucky, and I've been pretty 'hands off'.

    Plums from seed ?

Russian roulette, because of what Jack said. My wife cans peaches every year. We dump seeds and peels along the edge of the woods at a far corner of the yard. A couple years ago I noticed some young peach trees growing. I've done nothing but watch them since, except to give them a little...
