Anyone supplement the food plots with alfalfa in the winter months?

I'm in in Ohio and everything is dormant right now and covered with snow. The deer are digging a bit to get some vegetation under the snow. I also have a feeder throwing some corn out that the deer are visiting daily. I've heard corn isn't the best for them and more of a treat. A guy I know who...

Got my plots in this weekend, now torrential rain!

I ended up buying a bag of whitetail institute clover and broadcasting the seed over the entire area. It's hard to tell what washed and what didn't. I'm not sure if areas have too much clover seed will hurt anything, but I really need to get this plot going. The rain was Monday and I'm...

Got my plots in this weekend, now torrential rain!

Just busted my hump all weekend to plant my 2 acres of plots and an acre of grass around my house in northeast Ohio. Today it's storming like crazy. I'm afraid I'm going to lose most of my seed. I did roll everything but it's definitely washing. Anyone have experience with getting crazy...

What to do with this crazy food plot I planted in mid June?

The deer are definitely starting to use it. I'm not sure I want to mow it yet as the oats aren't quite ready yet. I'm thinking about doing a mow and throw right at September 15 with this plot. I figure the oats should be about done at that time and maybe I can add some brascias and winter...

What to do with this crazy food plot I planted in mid June?

Well the reason why I planted this mix as it was planted in June, when I didn't think I was going to get anything to grow well. I figured with the mix plus oats I had my best shot at getting something going. The area is growing well but not sure if it's the weeds or the seed growing. I've got...

    Anyone use aberlasting clover

My plan is to go before labor day. Hopefully the weather allows me to as I'll be doing it on the weekend. Rained all weekend and got absolutely nothing done this weekend. I'm going to be broadcasting for sure. I may want to mix in some rye with the oats. Maybe 50 pounds of rye with 100 lbs...

    Anyone use aberlasting clover

My plan is to plant everything before September 15. Ultimately, I want a short food plot as the area will also be used as a shooting range. That's why all want to stick with all white clovers but want to mix clovers up to see how each one performs. I'm thinks of using the aberlasting as my...

    Anyone use aberlasting clover

So you're saying I should plant 100 lbs total of oats/triticale, 10lbs total of white clover(ladino, alyce, copp), and 1 pound of Chicory with possibly some brascias? I was under the impression that 100 lbs of cereal grains was too much cover for the clover and could choke it out. That much...

That amount of seed used is per acre. I guess I forgot to mention that. I'm throwing the oats in with rye because I have them on hand

    Anyone use aberlasting clover

I've got 2 to 3 acres to plant. think I'm going to try some different clovers lite imperial, durana, and ladino. I just want to stick with one additional clover for all areas as I want to see how the others perform. The aberlasting would be my clover to add to each different type of clover I use.

Got my soil sample results-suggestions on a plan

It's a lot of work and money but I've been planning for it. I wanted to do this in the spring but never got all the earth work done so it had to wait. At this point, I'll put all the lime on it. Just have to find a way to gauge how much lime to put on as I'm going to be shaking out of a...
