    The amount of 'leafs' refers to the number of times a tree has come awake at its final destination. You get a tree in the mail from a nursery and plant it, it wakes up, that's its 1st leaf, 4 years later is it's 4th leaf, etc...

    In the north I agree @Chipdasqrrl this is normal thing up here. I don't believe it's any sort of disease or critter it's just the way they look when coming back awake.

    You folks are still hunting? When does your seasons end? Ours in Michigan goes Oct 1 bow season (to January 1st), Nov 15th rifle to Nov 30th, Muzzleloader was December 7-16th this year, we had a late antlerless as well with any weapon from Dec 17th through Jan 1.

    How can I tame this pear?

    I agree with @Native Hunter , pears prefer vertical, you shape them a bit with using weights or branch tie downs until they harden off for the winter to get some space between. Otherwise you just let them go to the sky and do a quick touch up in the off season.

    Well run them successive during harvest season, you may not be able to do it legally for pelts at that time but if its the stuff i want vs some nuisance critter, its goodbye critters....
