230 Acres Pennsylvania

I am starting a new thread for my new hunting Opportunity. My father and I recently leased a 230 Acre farm in Pennsylvania. We plan on holding this lease for years to come. Roughly 100 acres of CRP/Agriculture, and 100 acres of woods. After initial walk through, the sign is there for a prime hunting spot. Numerous rub lines, worn down deer trails, and changing habitat. It has a few low spots that hold water, two creek crevices, and both lowland trees and hard mast trees. I am excited for what the future holds in this property. Looking to start land management at the beginning of February (minor cleaning, trail cameras, possible stand locations). First step is thinking on where to put in some poor mans plots. Surrounding properties are Ag fields and woods. Can’t wait to begin on this property.

Glad your going to be able to share this with your father. Please share pictures when you can

What area of Pennsylvania?

Mercer County, North of Pittsburgh
Very Good Place to be.

With a little time and effort you should quickly find a Hunting Paradise there. Best of Luck and keep us informed of what happens.

I was raised and lived for 38 years further north of you in Jefferson County and my Brother still owns and Lives on the Family Farm. Nice to go back and visit.

Pictures are from initial Inspection, and then first walk through of the property during Late January. As you can see from the pictures, the trails are worn showing a good deer population well into the winter. There are a good number of habitat changes on the property as well. I counted over 50 rubs on my walk through, ranging in size. good amount of beds in the switch grass, and pushed two groups of does in those areas during the walk. I am headed back in two weeks to check my Cameras I put out, and to start working on some minor habitat improvement ideas.

It really is beautiful land. Rolling hills, Hardwoods, soft mast woods, swamp lands, creeks, and agriculture mixed in throughout. Can't wait to get back out there!

Buuuddddyyy. That is some pretty country right there. All that area (and western New York) need, is age on the bucks.
And a little bit of fertilizer. Deer antler size, all else being equal, is a reflection of the soil quality of the area. And central to western PA and up into western NY has average to mediocre soils.

Gotta appreciate Dr. Craig Harper.
