New cameras

when do yall think you get the best deal on cameras. do you buy this time of year when not many people or buying or wait till August when places start running pre hunting season sales. like the trade in event at bass pro. thanks

i'm fairly loyal to trailcampro....maybe i'm not getting much of a "discount" but when something is wrong i call them and they solve it right away, plus get 2 year warranty vs 1 and with today's cameras have 1 in 10 duds in then that piece of mind is worth it to me.

Although when they do have leftover models you can get like bundle package pretty good price.. For me its brownings, hard to beat for their price unless you want to bump up to reconyx.

$115/each for a good camera not bad deal

With most items of hunting gear it pays to stock up early if you see a sale going on, because prices are sure to go up, but with cameras technology advances so fast that as soon as the company brings out a new model, what was the current model of game camera at the start of the year may well be an older model by the time hunting season rolls around, and then these outdated electronics can be bought at discounted prices. For myself, I'd wait to buy.

i may be one of the few but i've had issues with both browning cameras that i bought so i am hesitant to buy. both had the same issue, the seal went bad and water got into the camera. thanks for the feedback i will keep my out for other deals.

Bad deal, but I wouldn't let it hold you back, there isn't another camera in the market, at that price point, that even comes close. I probably have 20-25 and none of mine have ever leaked.

Getting harder to find but the older coverts (hate the new ones) have on balance been the most reliable/bang for the buck. The brownings are my second choice. I have 25-30 out each year, and have several stolen each year so price matters. If I get more than 2 yrs of non stop use (even through our brutal winters), they meet my expectations. I will say the brownings have quicker trigger speeds and take better video than my preferred coverts. My Reconyx have been flawless. My one Exodus quit taking night pics this year but has otherwise been satisfactory. Bushnell had the highest rate of broken from day one, and on average, had an 18 month lifespan. Had a couple other misc. brands which scared me away forever.

There are several different models of brownings and a couple years ago I had some that just didn't take pics.I got some no glo from trailcampro.com and they take good pics as long as batteries are over 50% the ones from cabelas don't take that great of night pics

I bought over a dozen of the 2016 Strike Force Elites. They are bullet proof, and all are still chugging away. I got one this year, first camera I've bought since 2016, it was a Strike Force Apex. Great camera. It was a little more money, but I got 50% when Gander shut down here.

I've had better luck with Browning than the 5 other brands that I've tried. But I had to send one of the Brownings back to be replaced right out of the box. The battery tray would just fall out. I didn't have that problem with any of the other Brownings. So there are probably defective ones in every brand.

This may not be your issue at all but, in my many years of running cameras I’ve come to the conclusion that water inside some cameras was from condensation not leakage. Even the slightest moisture, snow flake, rain drop or just plain humid air when allowed in the camera when changing cards or batteries will create more water inside than you can imagine. Due to changing temperatures. I always check cameras now in perfect dry weather even if I have to wait a week.

I think you’re on to something there MM. I’ve had great luck with Bushnell cams. I’ve gotten 4/5 years out of several in the past. I even “lost” one for three years until my buddy spotted it on a trail where I had forgotten it. The batteries had started leaking, but I cleaned it up inside and it went right back to work. Bushnells and Brownings are all I own.

Yes, I agree with you, I didn't mention that my favorite #2 brand was Bushnell. I've also had Moultrie, Cuddeback, Wildgame, StealthCam, and some other off brands. Some of these brands had streaks of brilliance and deserve honorable mention, but a lot of them were plagued with either short longevity, poor battery life, terrible trigger, or a confusing sequences to program. One cheap brand I got in a sealed 2 pack, the one worked well and the other one didn't. My Brownings and Bushnells were consistently good on all of these key points. I'm not paid to hawk these products, just giving credit and saying what worked for me. But the new breed of super deer seem to be wise to red blinking lights on cameras, black no flash is a must anymore.

Don't buy exodus
I am curious ...... I recently received one as a x-mas gift and has worked well thus far. I don't get the deer staring at the cam so the "no glow" seems to work fine and for the price and a 5 year warranty I felt it was a safe bet.
